In 2014, we saw plenty of new slots game from a wide range of developers. So, we've decided to make a list of the best - and worst - releases of the year.

Best

South Park: Reel Chaos

Net Entertainment released Reel Chaos as a sequel to its popular South Park release from 2013. This game builds on all of the features that made the original game great, with a wide range of bonuses. There are bonus games and features for every main character from the cartoon series.

The graphics seemed to be pulled exactly from the television show, and Net Entertainment has done yet another great job in developing a South Park-themed game.

Walking Dead

The Walking Dead has yet to make it into the online casino market but the Aristocrat slot machine has made a huge splash in the land-based gaming world. Based on the hugely popular AMC television show, The Walking Dead slots was one of the best-selling games of the year.

Birds on a Wire

This is a title from a new developer named Thunder Kick games. It has a distinctive art style and bonus features that are unique and engaging. We feel as though the graphics and overall look of Birds on a Wire will certainly set a new trend for online slots design in 2015.

The Lab

The Lab is another slots game from a new developer named ELK Studios. While the game itself is quite basic, it is the first title to introduce built-in betting strategies. They automatically change players’ wagers based on whether they win or lose – to help increase their profits overall.

It is a very innovative system, and ELK Studios should certainly receive recognition for it.

Worst

Penguin Splash

Penguin Splash is a Microgaming-powered online slots game that certainly had a great deal of potential. However, the graphics are quite basic and there are not very many bonuses available for players to take advantage of.

We tend to expect more from larger slots developers like Microgaming, and Penguin Splash failed to impress.

Today’s Weather

The good thing about this game is that it looks almost exactly like a weather forecast on the news. It’s got a great design – but that’s about as far as it goes. It really is about as interesting as watching the weather channel for an extended period of time.

Megasaur

In 2014, the online slots market saw some innovative and exciting games. While Real Time Gaming’s Megasaur slots game was not a bad title, it certainly did not live up to the standards of slots design that were set by other developers this year.

Game of Thrones

We’re not happy to have Microgaming on the ‘Worst’ list twice, but Game of Thrones deserves a mention. The Game of Thrones online slots game was highly anticipated, but it certainly failed to live up to expectations. The graphics were not particularly interesting, and the only bonus available was a free spins round.

There could have been clips and sound bites from the television series, but there really isn’t anything to distinguish Game of Thrones from any other slots game that was released in 2014.
