Thunderkick is quite a new online slots developer, so they haven’t built up very much momentum when it comes to releasing new games. Usually, we only really see one or two new games from Thunderick every couple of months, so when the company launched two games in August, we were thrilled. Coming right after the launch of Babushkas is Spectra, a neon-themed online slot with some great bonus features.
Theme
Spectra is a vibrant and colourful online slots game with a neon theme. The game looks beautiful but the theme comes a little bit too late. It was two years ago that developers hopped on the neon bandwagon, so it’s not entirely a new concept.
Games like iSoftBet’s Neon Reels and Net Entertainment’s Neon Staxx did a great job of bringing this style of art into the online slots world, so Spectra isn’t doing anything ground-breaking or even really building on the theme.
Format
There are 30 paylines in Spectra, which provide players with many different ways to win big each time they spin the reels. Bet sizes are pre-set and range from 10c to $100. So, players of all budgets are catered to when they spin the reels.
Wild Bonus Features
There are two different bonus features that include wild symbols. Each one helps to improve players’ winning potential.
Wild Re-Spin: When a wild stack lands on the reels, the player receives re-spin. The stack remains frozen in place while the rest of the reels spin to help improve the players’ chances of winning generous prizes.
Wild Nudge: During each re-spin, the wild stacks will nudge towards the centre of the reels. This improves the odds of a stacked wild landing and granting the player an additional re-spin.
Our Verdict
Generally, the new Spectra slot from Thunderkick is a great game that is entertaining – but, it really doesn’t knock it out of the park. We know what kind of games Thunderkick has the potential to produce, so we’re not particularly impressed.
With games like Sunny Scoops and Birds on a Wire under its belt, Thunderkick develops some seriously impressive games, and it is disappointing that Spectra doesn’t really bring anything new to the online gaming world.
That being said, it’s not a terrible game. It offers up some fun gameplay, and is interesting to look at but there isn’t much that’s very special about Spectra. Especially following up an amazing game like Babushkas, we were expecting a bit more – however, we were still entertained while we spun the reels.
If you’re looking for a quick fun experience, then Spectra is a good choice – but, there are many other Thunderkick games that are much better.
