Aristocrat has recently released a new slot machine based on the Rolling Stones. The game has generated a great deal of buzz in the gaming industry media – but does the game live up to hype?

The blogging team at Slots Temple weighs in.

The Theme

It may seem a bit strange for a slot machine manufacturer to base a game on a rock band, but it is quite a sound strategy.

According to Aristocrat, the theme ‘generates optimal appeal’. In laymen’s terms, this means that players of all ages will enjoy this title because – who doesn’t love The Rolling Stones? It certainly is a timeless theme, and we can’t see the game going out of fashion any time soon.

There are actually plenty of slots based on popular musical acts. KISS and Dolly Parton have also recently lent their names to slot machines, and there is even a game based on American Idol.

The Format

From a format perspective, the Rolling Stones slot machine does not differ from many other land-based slots. It has 5 reels an 40 paylines, and players have a wide range of wagers to choose from. Casual gamers can wager as little as 1c per payline while high rollers can spend up to $5 on a spin.

Bonus Features

There are four bonus features available when you play The Rolling Stones slot machine.

The first is the Wild Licks feature, during which the band’s logo flies across the screen and licks random symbols to turn them wild. It is a randomly triggered feature, so players do not have to do anything in particular to earn these extra wilds.

When three scatter symbols appear on the reels, the Rock n Roll Steel Wheel is triggered. When the player spins the wheel, they can earn a cash prize or trigger one of two other bonuses.

They are:

- World Tour Picks. In this bonus game, several logos appear on the reels. The player then picks several to reveal cash prizes, multipliers and other bonuses. If the player reveals all four band members, then they win a special bonus prize.

- Start Me Up. This bonus triggers a separate set of reels that appear on the top screen on a 10 x 5 grid. This presents the player with increased winning potential to win bonus cash, and sticky wilds also boost the player’s odds of winning.

Our Verdict

There really isn’t anything to gripe about. The Rolling Stones slot machine is a pretty great game. However, we’re disappointed that it’s not available in the online casino world yet.

We imagine that it will be a huge hit, but Aristocrat has yet to bring the game into the digital gaming market.
