Launched in 2021, Print Studios is the new kid on the block in the slots market. Normally, it takes a while before a game developer makes a name for itself - but Print has managed to make waves thanks to its unique features and quirky themes.
We spoke with the company's CCO Filip Wargéus, about Print Studios' successful first year and what they have planned for 2022. Read on to find out more about this forward-thinking brand:

First off, thanks so much for chatting with us! We've really enjoyed Print Studios games and are super excited to learn more about you guys!
Thank you for having me, we’re big fans of Slots Temple here at Print Studios and I’m excited for this interview!
Can you tell us more about your team? We'd love to hear about your designers and developers; they do a fab job creating fun slots.
We have a team consisting of very talented individuals and we have been fortunate to find people who all share the passion for slots. Our ambition at Print Studios is to empower people and everyone here is an expert in their respective field with years of experience from the industry.
A game is only as good as its weakest link as we like to say – whether that be the game idea, art, animation, development, or math. We take our time to enjoy the journey of creating a slot and then perfect it along the way. It certainly is a team effort so I’m proud of all of us!

What would you say your biggest achievement was as a company in 2021? What would your team like to accomplish in 2022?
2021 was really our first full year as a company. Putting together the team, releasing three games on time, and having fun doing so has been a big achievement in itself. We also received several industry nominations for our first few games, and we are of course very honoured by that fact. Getting that recognition early on reinforces the belief in ourselves and what we set out to do as a company.
2022 for us will be a year where we test our full roadmap, and we aim to release 4 games in total. In doing so, we would like to keep the momentum up and release slots with the great standard that the players have come to like from Print Studios. I can tell you that we have some pretty cool games coming up for 2022!
Your Royal Potato slot is a favourite of ours here at Slots Temple. When we think we've seen everything in the slots world, we get a potato-themed game - it's got such a fun theme! How did the idea for this game come about? What types of themes will you be exploring in the new year?
Thank you very much, I’m pleased to hear that. Yes, the theme was a bit of a gamble, but we trusted our gut and it turned out great in the end. The actual idea came from our CEO when we visited a friend’s summer house back in Sweden. This was during the summer when we were out digging up some potatoes for dinner and he asked us: “What do you think is going on down here among the potatoes?”.
From that moment we all started reading up on potatoes and finalised the idea for the theme together with our designer. There were many interesting potato facts and discussions internally leading up to the finished product…
Going forward we’ll continue to challenge ourselves and our players with more imaginative themes with the goal of creating stories and worlds that people fall in love with.

Are there any slot mechanics that you'd like to experiment with in 2022?
Sure, all of them if we could! I don’t want to spoil too much here, but you can count on us coming up with new mechanics with every release. Our goal is always to create games that are dynamic and fun to play over tens of thousands of spins, not just the first few hundred. This puts a lot of pressure on us in the idea stage, and makes for more challenging productions, which is exactly what inspires us as a team.
Of your three slots released in 2021, which one do you think represents Print Studios the most as a brand?
They all represent Print Studios in their own way! For our first game, Book of Destiny, we added our take on the book genre with gamble up feature and player choice for expanding symbol. Then of course Crystal Golem, where we first introduced the players to our own brand-new mechanic, SuperSpinners™, which we also utilised for Royal Potato.
All games carry the DNA of Print Studios. We wouldn’t release a slot that doesn’t bring something new and unique to the players.
As one of the most forward-thinking new slots developers we've seen in the market, are there any changes you'd like to see in the gaming world in the coming year?
For sure! I’d like to see the will of the player put in higher regard and we will always push for that on our end. It would be nice to see certain regulators put their focus on other regulatory issues rather than focusing on game design and RTP limits.
It’s also nice when operators dare to put players above short-term views of shareholders - for example by having high RTPs, fair bonus terms and exposure for games that the enthusiasts love. A trend in that direction would be swell.

Some of your slots have been featured in our tournaments, and players have loved them! What do you think of the platform?
For us it’s been great to get exposure for our games and receive feedback from players. I think Slots Temple is a good platform to try out slots for free and it’s very engaging to play tournaments where you can follow your progress on the leaderboards and have the chance to win cool prizes.
