In the superhero world, Marvel’s The Avengers are currently in fashion. They have taken the throne from Batman, whose blockbuster trilogy ended in 2012. Several films have been planned for the franchise, after the first Avengers movie was a huge success.
Now, online casino operators are capitalizing on that success with the creation of new Avengers-themed slots. Captain America is PlayTech’s latest online slots release. Titled ‘The First Avenger’, it is likely that there will be several more games in the series.
Theme
We have to admit – Captain America isn’t our favourite Marvel Superhero, but PlayTech does an excellent job of creating a game based on him.
The game features 3D graphics and pits our hero against his long-time foe Red Skull. The base game graphics are not incredible, but when the bonus game’s 3D graphics kick in, we were quite impressed.
Bonuses
All of Captain America’s bonuses occur during the Free Spins round. When Captain America appears on reel 1 and Red Skull appears on reel 5 with Free Spins symbol between them, the game is triggered.
A 3x3 grid appears between the two characters. As players click on each tile, a new bonus is revealed, which will be applied to their free spins round. The bonuses available are: - extra free spins - expanded reels - additional wilds - multipliers
Super Spins
The Super Spins bonus can be triggered after the initial Free Games round has ended. If this round is triggered, then either Captain America or Red Skull will expand on reels 1 or 5. An extra wild symbol will also be added to the reels to provide players with even more winning potential.
PlayTech Vs. Cryptologic Marvel Slots
There was a time when both PlayTech and Cryptologic were both releasing slots games based on Marvel Superheroes. After a lawsuit over the content, both companies were permitted to continue producing games based on these characters – but Cryptologic’s games are just not up to snuff anymore.
Cryptologic has always taken a more comic book approach to designing its slots while PlayTech’s games are more closely based on the movies. As such, PlayTech’s titles featuring 3D graphics and cinematic sequences, which tend to attract more modern online casino players.
Anything Else?
That’s about it. So, we did miss the addition of an off-screen bonus. While the Free Games bonus is very generous, we would have liked to see a different bonus round as well. Super Hero slots always seem to go nicely with an arcade-style bonus.
