With the launch of ELK Studios’ new online slots Bloopers, we thought we would take a closer look at one of the developer’s most popular features: built-in betting strategies.

They offer players the chance to optimise their winning potential by using different patterns of wagering – but, do they really benefit the player? Slots Temple aims to find out!

What are betting strategies?

A betting strategy is a pattern of wagering that have the potential to increase players’ profits as they play particular casino games. Usually, these strategies are used only on table games like roulette and craps – but they can be beneficial when playing slots. Some examples of common betting strategies are:

  • Martingale: double your bet after any losing bet
  • Fibonacci: increase your bet in a Fibonacci sequence

Compared to flat betting, the Martingale system has the potential to increase a player’s net profit over time; however, there is the possibility that players end up without the money to cover their next bet.

Bloopers Betting Strategies: Optimiser

This betting strategy changes the bet level automatically in order to adapt to a selected percentage of the player’s balance. Casual players are advised to select 1% while high rollers can opt for 5% or 10%.

In our test, we opted for 5% on a 50-coin wager. We started out with 1000-credits. Over the course of 25 spins, we ended up with 665 credits. At no point did we ever make a profit on our initial bankroll. Our biggest win was 465 credits.

Bloopers Betting Strategies: Leveller

This betting strategy raises the bet 2 levels after five losses in a row. We started out with 1000-credits. Over the course of 25 spins (and starting with a $5 wager), we ended up with 1487 credits. Our biggest win was 5760 credits. At our lowest point, we had 950 credits.

Bloopers Betting Strategies: Booster

This betting strategy raises the bet one level after a single loss. We started out with 1000-credits. Over the course of 25 spins (and starting with a $5 wager), we ended up with 740 coins. Our biggest win was 480 credits.  

Bloopers Betting Strategies: Jumper

This betting strategy raises the bet one level after a single loss. We started out with 1000-credits. Over the course of 25 spins (and starting with a $5 wager), we ended up with 1040 coins. Our biggest win was 1069 credits.

Flat Betting

In our flat bet, we wagered $5 each time. Over the course of 25 spins, we netted a profit of 1008 coins. Our biggest win was 960 coins.

Results

The Leveller netted us the best profit, but we may have just gotten really lucky for such a massive single win. Although we only saw a small profit overall, it seems that the best results came from the Jumper, which offered up the most consistent wins with generous prizes worth upwards of 250 coins each time. Flat betting still offered up a comparatively generous profit.

So, the betting strategies didn’t make a huge difference in our winnings – but they did add a fun new layer to the gameplay!
