The G2E Global Gaming Expo was held last month, and it was an exciting year for the land-based slot machine industry. While many slot machine developers showed off their wares and presented some very interesting innovations, we were quite taken with the debut of Konami’s new Neo Contra slots game.

Based on the popular Contra video game series by Konami, the new slot machine brings something new to the market. It is ground-breaking for a number of reasons.

What Is Neo Contra?

Neo Contra is the tenth instalment in Konami’s Contra video game series. It was released for the Playstation 2 in 2004, and was a 3D adventure game that introduced new gameplay features into the industry. The title received average reviews from critics, but it has remained a favourite among players.

The Contra Series

Contra is one of the longest-running series in the video game world. The first title, Contra, was released in 1987. It was a huge hit that spawned several sequels. In total, there are 13 games in the series – the latest of which was released in 2011 for the Playstation 3.

While Konami has created a wide range of video games over the years, it was wise for the company to base its latest title on the Contra series.

Since the series has widespread appeal across generations of gamers, the new Neo Contra slots from Konami will certainly attract a great deal of attention.

What Sets Neo Contra Apart from Other Video Game Slots?

We know what you’re thinking: “Isn’t Neo Contra just another slot machine based on a video game?” The answer is: yes and no.

While Neo Contra follows the same format as many other video game slots, it is Konami’s relationship with the game that sets it apart from the competition. Usually, a slot machine operator will have to negotiate with the game designer or the company that owns the rights to the game’s intellectual property.

With Konami Neo Contra slots, this is not the case. Back when Konami developed video games, it created Contra and so it owns the intellectual property. This is the first time that this has occurred in the slot machine market, and it is a very interesting development.

This may give Konami unprecedented access when it comes to developing slot machines based on its own games. There is no need to tiptoe around the desires of the company that owns the intellectual property; Konami can pretty much do whatever it likes with the game. So, we really are hoping for big things from this new title.

The new Konami Neo Contra slot game will hit land-based casinos later this year. Keep your eyes peeled and be sure to give it a spin.
