Introduction

Aspect Gaming was founded in 2008 by a group of digital professionals who brought their managerial experience, gathered at Google, eBay and Alibaba, to this largely Asian-focused venture. Its ambitions are, of course, global and although it may be more common to find an Aspect Gaming demo slot with an Asian theme, the company is also developing demo slots with more universal subject matter. Lucky Legend is an example of this, set in medieval England in the style of Blueprint and Merkur’s Magic Mirror.

Lucky Legend has a five-reel grid with three columns and 10 fixed paylines. The minimum bet size is 0.01 and the maximum is 1.00 per line. There are nine regular symbols: the princess, the potion, the letter, the dagger, and the playing cards from ten to ace. The scatter is a book of spells.

Theme, graphics and soundtrack

From the moment the game loads, you will be struck by the pretty basic and old-fashioned presentation of this medieval world: ivy-covered walls, a sub-Disney castle, and a winsome princess with big blue eyes. The music is as you would expect, with strings, harps and woodwind all trying to do their best to raise the excitement level but without much success.

The RTP reported by the developer is 94.02 per cent, which is surprisingly low. There is no information available as to its variance. 

How to play Lucky Legend

1. The betting is dictated by 10 fixed lines, so your chosen bet amount will be multiplied by 10.
2. ‘Bet per line’ displays the current bet. You can adjust this using the + and - buttons.
3. The win track bar shows you the game history. Red refers to base game wins, yellow refers to non-wins, and blue refers to the features triggered.
4. Winning combinations pay from left to right. Only the highest win is paid per line.
5. Scatter wins are multiplied by the total bet; line wins are multiplied by the bet per line.
6. Click the spin button to start playing the reels using the current total bet value. You cannot stop the reels mid-spin.
7. Select the settings button to the bottom left to find an alternative means of adjusting the bet.
8. In the settings menu, click the cog symbol to turn on or off the sounds and music and to switch between fast and normal play.
9. Click ‘auto spin’ under the spin button to select a number of auto spins up to 100. Leave the slider at zero if you do not wish to use the auto spin facility.
10. In the auto spins menu, you may also set a limit for losses and for single wins. Auto spin will function only once you have set a limit and you can stop autoplay at any time by pressing ‘stop’ under the number of remaining auto spins.
11. The running balance is displayed to the bottom left of the screen.

Bet sizes and paytable wins

The bet size ranges from 0.01 to 1.00. Multiplied by the fixed lines, this means a total bet range of 0.10 to 10.00. The maximum payout is 5,000x

The paytable values run from two or three matching symbols on a payline to five matching symbols. The payouts for five matching symbols are as follows:

Scatter

Scatters substitute for all other symbols, appearing on all reels in the base game and the free spins feature. If three or more scatters land, they will trigger ten free games with a lucky symbol. Scatter values are:

5 = 200x total bet and 10 free games
4 = 20 x total bet and 10 free games
3 = 2x total bet and 10 free games

Free games

At the start of the free games feature, one lucky symbol (excluding the scatter) is selected at random. If lucky symbols appear during the free games feature and form a winning combination with the scatter, they will be repeated on the respective reel. Wins awarded by lucky symbols are paid out at the same value as the regular symbol; however, there is no requirement for combinations to be on adjacent reels. Regular symbol wins are paid before any lucky symbols expand.

The free games feature can be retriggered and free spins are played at the same bet level as the game that triggered the feature.

Lucky Legend review: our verdict

Lucky Legend is not a memorable experience. The graphics are rudimentary and while the payouts are adequate, the gameplay is not particularly engaging and features are very limited. The only thing out of the ordinary is the win track; however, this is really only of passing interest.
