Introduction

Like on many slots, The Magic Lamp has five reels each holding three symbols. When you spin, you hope matching symbols will land consecutively from left to right across one of 30 fixed paylines. You have four gem/card symbols, four lamps and two Wilds, which keeps things nice and simple on the paytable front.

Where this slot gets interesting is with its Circle Wilds, which can appear in both the main game and during free spins rounds. Theme, Graphics & Soundtrack

This slot is set in the Sultan’s Palace and has a decidedly Middle Eastern soundtrack but it has to be said it doesn’t make the greatest use of the familiar features of Aladdin’s tale. The story of Ala ad-din is Middle Eastern in origin and often associated with the famous collection 1001 Arabian Nights, but it’s now also familiar through the Disney film and its repeated appearances in pantomime. A wicked sorcerer tries to trick Aladdin into bringing him a magic lamp, but Aladdin rubs the lamp first and releases the genie within, which then offers him three wishes.

The only aspect of the story that appears directly on the reels is the lamp. To be more precise, there are four magic lamps, each a different colour. They’re beautifully decorated but it would be nice to at least see the genie as well. Even the Wild just says Wild (though Aladdin can pop out, in one of the more interesting moments in the game). Some slots have card symbols and others have gems, but this one combines the two by having symbols for the four card suits carved in gemstones.

RTP & Volatility

There’s a lack of official information on The Magic Lamp’s RTP and volatility that makes it difficult to set expectations. The only way to find out what kind of returns are likely is to play for a while (preferably the demo version).

How to Play The Magic Lamp

1. Start with your research. That could mean reading reviews of the slot, and could also mean actually loading the game and clicking the purple button at the bottom left that says “Pay Table” to find out how the game works.

2. There’s another purple button for “Menu” and you may want to click that next so you can control settings including the volume and Turbo Play.

3. At the centre of the screen is the space where any winning amounts will be displayed. Move right of that and there’s the bet adjustor. Use the plus and minus signs to raise or lower your stake, or click the “Bet” button above to adjust bet level and coin value. You can’t adjust the number of paylines.

4. Now there’s only one button left. It’s the big green one at the bottom right of the screen and it clearly says “Spin”. If you just click it the reels will turn once, or you could hold the button down to activate autoplay. Either way, the game’s begun.

Bet & Win Sizes

Bet level ranges from one to 40 whilst coin value can be between 0.1 and 0.10. That means your overall bet amount starts at 0.30 and finishes as 120.00.

As you’d expect, the lowest paying symbols are the card symbols/gems. Maximum wins on these for five of a kind are:

Clubs and diamonds - 40.

Hearts - 60.

Spades - 80.

Then there are the lamps:

Gold - 90.

Blue - 100.

Bronze - 300.

Purple - 1000.

When Circle Wilds are enabled in the main game, five Wild symbols can pay the same as five purple lamps.

Bonus Features

Circle Wilds

These occur when a green Wild moves anticlockwise from the top left with every spin. At the same time, a red Wild does the same but starting at the bottom right. Whilst they’re circling, Aladdin may pop out of a Wild. If it’s the green Wild he’ll wear green and bring a multiplier of x2 or x4. If it’s a red Wild he’ll wear red and bring two or three extra red Wilds to replace other symbols. You’ll also be rewarded an appropriately coloured orb. Collect enough of them and you’ll trigger free games.

Free Games

Five red and five green orbs means free games will begin, and continue until you run out of orbs. Every spin will cause one orb to return to the Wilds on the reels. As Circle Wilds are also enabled during Free Games, it is possible to collect more orbs and more free spins.

Conclusion

This isn’t the most exciting variation on Aladdin that we’ve ever seen (try the Aladdin and the Sorcerer slot), but the Circle Wilds are just about interesting enough to make this slot distinctive. They spice up both the base game and free spins. It’s just a shame that the slot didn’t do more with its graphics to really take advantage of its theme.
