Every year we see game developers from all corners of the globe putting their skills against one another, creating – what they all call – the best Christmas slots of the year… but this year, we’ve had enough. We’re not taking all these “our slot’s the BEST Christmas” slot mumbo jumbo anymore… and we’re putting an end to the competitive nature of the industry once and for all! So… in no particular order… the best NEW Christmas slots of 2020!

Holiday Spirits

Kicking off this year’s rundown is Holiday Spirits – a game from popular software provider Play'n Go. Holiday Spirits is every bit as enthralling to play as it is to look at, and stunning HD graphics greet you from the moment you first open up the slot. In the backdrop, there’s a gorgeous Christmas Tree, and a log-burning fire can be found to the right-hand-side of the reels; it’s got a warm, Christmassy feeling to it, and for those looking for graphical Christmas charm – Holiday Spirits ticks all of the right boxes so far!

Where things get a bit interesting, is when looking at the game’s layout. Holiday Spirits is built around a 3X3 grid, and there are just five fixed paylines in play here. Players can wager from as little as 0.10, and as much as 100 credits per spin.

There’s tons of bonuses and features packed into the game, first of which is the Ebenezer’s Clock feature. This can spin into life on any base game spin, and awards a multiplier against the next win, worth 2X, 3X, 5X or 10X. The biggest feature in the game, however, is the Win Spin bonus – and there are three different types of these, which multiply wins by up to 10X, have stacked symbols and more. It’s a great start to our best slots of Christmas 2020 list, and we’re sure this Play'n Go gem will go down a treat this Christmas season!

Big Bad Wolf: Christmas Special

Next on our list is Big Bad Wolf: Christmas SpecialQuickspin’s latest offering – and it’s essentially a remake of their old classic, Big Bad Wolf – but with a few welcomed graphical enhancements. Big Bad Wolf: Christmas Special uses the same math model, the same symbols (bar some design changes) and the same bonus round mechanic as the original – so fans of the original slot aren’t going to be left disappointed here!

Big Bad Wolf: Christmas Special is built around a 5-reel, 3-row format, and, like the original, there are 25 fixed paylines. As we mentioned – the game is pretty much a clone of the original Big Bad Wolf – but the Pig characters have Santa’s Hats attached to them, as does the Wolf himself; it’s quite comical to look at, and it actually offers up something a bit more light-hearted – we like it!

There’s still the famed infinity spins – where the pigs turn wild – and if you can land three of the wolf scatter symbols anywhere in view you’ll be awarded 10 Free Spins, during which the “Pigs Turn Wild” mechanic continues to be active. It looks great and offers a maximum win – per spin – of up to 1,268X your stake on each spin!

Rudolph Gone Wild

SG Digital are the latest game developer to get on the Christmas slot trend this year (although, for them, it’s nothing new – they greet us with new Xmas slots most years) – and Rudolph Gone Wild is their offering for us this year! The game is built around a 5-reel, 4-row format, and there are 50 fixed paylines in play at all times. The RTP of the slot is a little low – coming in at 95.33% - but the game offers great win-potential, with up to 5,000X your stake on offer per spin!

What Rudolph Gone Wild is all about, however, is the bonuses and features – and there’s plenty of them, all well-thought-out, action-packed and exciting! One notable bonus round is the Snow Machine Wilds feature which can trigger randomly on any base game spin. When it does, between 1 and 4 symbols on the reels are transformed into wilds; get four symbols transformed and you can walk away with some massive wins!

There’s also a more conventional Free Spins bonus round which is triggered by landing three of the scatter symbols on the middle reels. You then get to – somewhat – customise your Free Spins bonus, choosing our number of spins, along with the height of the stacked Rudolph symbols that come into play during the bonus round.

Carol of the Elves

Carol of the Elves is an online slot from Yggdrasil Gaming with a soft, nostalgic theme. The game features reels that expand from 40 up to 3125 winning ways, and offers a top prize of 5200x your stake.

As players hit winning combinations in the game, blocker tiles are removed to expand the number of winning ways in Carol of the Elves. Should players remove all of the blockers, the Lantern Collection feature is activated.

Here, winning combinations will cause the red or green lanterns to light up on either side of the screen. Lighting up 5 green lanterns will increase your win multiplier while lighting up 5 red lanterns will give you an extra life which stops the round from ending.

It’s definitely a fun new twist on classic slots gameplay and its Christmas theme is perfect for the season.

Christmas Megaways

Iron Dog Studios offer their Christmas offering this year with a bang – and that’s thanks to the Megaways mechanic found within the game. Rather uncreatively, Iron Dog Studios has named the game simply “Christmas Megaways”. The game uses Big Time Gaming’s Megaways mechanic, ensuring there’s up to 117,649-ways-to-win active on each spin, and the slot is built around a 6-reel format, with between 2 and 7 rows active on each spin. The game has a decent RTP of 96.2%, and the maximum win comes in at a staggering 40,000X your stake – so there’s some insane win-potential on offer here.

No Megaways slot would be complete without cascading reels – and Christmas Megaways has just that! Whenever symbols form part of a win, they disappear from the reels, and new ones drop down to take their place. You’ll also notice that there’s multiplier wilds on reels 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6; when these form part of a win, they multiply the win by the respective multiplier – and the multipliers combine too!

The main attraction of Christmas Megaways, however, is the Free Spins bonus round, and this is triggered by triggering four or more successive win cascades at once. You will then trigger the free spins bonus, and during the bonus round, a progressive multiplier increases by 1X with each win; reels expand in size too, so there’s a ton of action to be on the lookout for!

Christmas Carol Megaways

We’ve seen Pragmatic Play releasing more Megaways slots recently – and Christmas Carol Megaways is the latest instalment in their range. It’s based, of course, around “A Christmas Carol” – the novel by Lewis Carol – and you’ll see the book’s characters, theme and charm played out in the slot from Pragmatic Play.

The game has a very unique layout to it – and from the moment you first open it up, you’ll notice that there’s a lot going on. This isn’t a bad thing, necessarily – but it can take a while to get used to, especially if you’re not used to lots going on.

When it comes to bonuses and features, you’ll find Cascading Reels activated on every spin – and there’s also a pretty decent Free Spins bonus, Christmas Megaways looks the part, is fun-to-play and action-packed – and we expect it to be a popular release for the popular iGaming developer!

Aloha! Christmas Edition

Aloha! Christmas Edition is a brand-new video slot from NetEnt – and while it’s new, it is essentially a clone of their old hit, Aloha! Cluster Pays! The difference in the new game, however, is that it’s loosely themed around Christmas (Ok, it’s a bit of a stretch to call it a Christmas game), and there’s also some changes to the way in which the slot actually works.

For example, during the base game mystery symbols can now land – and sometimes, these mystery symbols can reveal a multiplier, worth up to 7X! Another change is that during the bonus round, you need to collect three special scatter symbols; doing so awards you with two additional free spins, and removes the current lower-paying symbol from the reels.

Santa King Megaways

In Inspired Gaming’s Santa King Megaways, we’re basically looking at a reskin of Reel King Megaways – similar to the Christmas Edition of Big Bad Wolf. While the developer doesn’t get points for originality, we can’t fault the gameplay – with its fun bonus meter feature and free spins round – or, the slot’s festive makeover.

So, what do you think? It’s clear there are plenty of Christmas-themed slots to enjoy this year – and we expect to see a few more late arrivals coming too! Remember, you can play most of the games we’ve shown you right here at Slots Temple – without needing to sign-up or registering an account.
