- 3 Win Spin features
- Base-game win multiplier
- Great graphics and animations
- Low maximum win of 1,600X stake
- 3X3 format likely to put some players off
Holiday Spirits is a brand new video slot from Play’n Go that’s themed around Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol story. The slot can be played from between 0.10 and 100 credits per spin, and bonuses and features include three variations of Win Spins and a randomly-triggered base-game multiplier, multiplying wins up to 20X.
Theme & Format
Holiday Spirits is themed around Charles Dickens’ novel, a Christmas Carol, and it incorporates many elements of the story - with one bonus round themed around each of the three ghosts involved with the tale!
Holiday Spirits is played out on a 3X3 grid, and there are just 5 paylines - so it’s quite different to what we typically see from Play’n Go. Still, it doesn’t look half bad, and the backdrop of the game is steeped in Christmas decor; you’ll find a stunning Christmas tree to the left-hand-side of the reels and warm, roaring fireplace on the right-hand-side really helping to set the mood and tone for the game.
Betting Options and RTP
You will find yourself able to play Holiday Spirits from as little as 0.10 per spin and as much as 100 credits too - so there’s stake options for players on all budgets - and the game has a default RTP of 96.54%, although don’t forget that Play’n Go do offer different RTP settings on most of their games, so you’ll want to check with the online casino you’re playing with to ensure you’re getting the most RTP variation available.
Holiday Spirits’ Symbols And Payouts
One of the things that can - in our opinion - make or break a slot, when it comes to graphics and visuals, is how the game developer in question chooses to build and make the game. We were really happy to see that, in Holiday Spirits, all of the slot’s symbols are custom-made, meaning you won’t find any re-hashed symbols you’ve seen in thousands of other slots.
The game’s symbols include snow globes, candy canes, bulging stockings and weather and the heart-warming Christmas icons make up Holiday Spirits’ lower-paying symbols, which, to be honest, don’t pay a huge deal!
When it comes to the slot’s higher-paying symbols you'll see the four ghosts involved with the tale of Christmas Past. The ghosts of past, present and future are all on the reels, and you’ll also see Jacob Marley - Scrooge’s dead business partner who was doomed to spend the rest of eternity stuck in the afterlife in heavy metal chains as he repents for a life filled with greed, selfishness and jealousy.
Holiday Spirits Bonus Features
It’s pretty rare for Play’n Go to come out with a slot that’s not packed with bonuses and features - and Holiday Spirits is no exception. You’ll find everything from Ebenezer’s Clock multipliers, Ebenezer’s Gift alongside a Win Spins feature to look forward to, and in the next part of this Holiday Spirits review we’re going to be taking a look at what these bonuses and features are - and what kind of playing experience you can expect when playing them for yourself.
If you look closely you’ll see that there’s a clock sitting above the top of the reels. On any spin - in both the base-game and during the Win Spins feature (which we’ll take a look at in just a moment) this clock can start to move, and it will then a multiplier of either x2, x3, x4, x5, or x10 is applied to any win.
Next to the clock is Ebenezer’s Gift, increasing the effect. If it happens to light up at the same time as the clock, it actually doubles the multiplier, so you can find your wins multiplied by a maximum of 20X instead of 10X. From our experience it’s fairly rare for this to happen, however - especially when the 10X multiplier is present.
The Win Spins feature is the core component of Holiday Spirits, and when two of the game’s reels are stacked in the base-game with the same symbols - and a win is not formed - and an active multiplier is triggered, then this feature will activate. OK, so it may sound near-impossible for it to trigger, but it does happen more frequently than you’d think - once in every 150 spins we’d guess on average. Once it triggers, the stacked reels (which contain identical symbols) then lock in place, and you’ll then be awarded one of three Win Spin features, the type of which is dependent on how you triggered the bonus.
- Win Spins of Christmas Future: This feature is activated if the 2X multiplier was in play when the feature was triggered. When this feature is active, you’re given unlimited re-spins until a win hits. On each non-winning re-spin, the multiplier increased all the way up to 10X - and if you reach the 10X multiplier, you’re guaranteed a win spin with a 10X multiplier.
- Wins of Christmas Present: This is activated when the multiplier in the base-game is 3X, 4X or 5X. You will then be awarded unlimited re-spins again, but you’re guaranteed one win at the multiplier level the bonus triggered at.
- Wins of Christmas Past: If you trigger the feature with the 10X multiplier present the Wins of Christmas Past feature will trigger. The re-spins then continue until you form a win. What’s interesting here, is that on each non-winning spin the multiplier actually decreases - all the way down to 2C.
Our Verdict Of Holiday Spirits
Each year, around November, we see a number of game developers rushing to get their Christmas-themed slots into the iGaming market. It’s no exception with Play’n Go, and we’re actually pretty used to seeing them releasing Xmas-themed games - they’re, by far, one of the most prominent software providers who do so. This year is no exception, and we’re confident Holiday Spirits won’t be the only Christmas-themed game they release this year.
Unfortunately, while the game looks great - and has a fitting soundtrack accompanying each spin - there’s just not a huge amount actually going on for the slot. Sure, it’s got a few different bonuses and features which are a nice touch - but the low variance nature of the game means that actually hitting big wins through these bonuses and features is pretty rare.
However, we do feel that the Win Spins feature somewhat makes up for the rest of Holiday Spirits’ shortcomings. This is perhaps the only place in the slot where you will find it possible to hit some pretty significant wins, and it’s nice to see the software provider taking a popular mechanic (we’ve seen it used in other games of theirs including Pimped) and bringing it into their latest release. It’s no Holiday Season - but it’s, on the whole, a fairly decent effort from Play’n Go, even if it’s not their best work.

Holiday Spirits FAQs
Who made Holiday Spirits?
Holiday Spirits is built and developed by a company called Play’n Go’; they’re one of the clear market leaders in the online gambling world and are responsible for some of the most successful games on the planet including Book of Dead and Reactoonz. Holiday Spirits may not reach quite the same levels of popularity as these other games but it’s a decent effort from the software provider nonetheless.
What’s the RTP of Holiday Spirits?
Holiday Spirits comes with a “factory” RTP of 96.54%. However, this is only the default RTP. What this means, is that Play’n Go actually offers the game in different RTP settings - thus meaning that some online casinos can choose to take the game at a lower RTP setting.
What’s the maximum win in Holiday Spirits?
Unfortunately, pretty much the major downside of playing Holiday Spirits is the simple fact that the win-potential is so low; you’ll find that you’re only able to actually win up to 1,600X your stake on a single spin. This is disappointing, and is a lot less than we’re used to seeing in the game developer’s games.
What bonuses and features will I find in Holiday Spirits?
One of the things Play’n Go has got right is the bonuses and features they’ve managed to cram inside Holiday Spirits. There’s lots to choose from, and you’ll find everything from win multipliers - reaching as high as 10X - to re-spins and re-spins with multipliers attached to them.
Does Holiday Spirits have a progressive jackpot?
No. Unfortunately, Play’n Go haven’t really got into the progressive jackpot slots market like other game developers including Red Tiger and NetEnt. What’s more, with a maximum win-potential of just 1,600X your stake, it’s unlikely those in search of progressive jackpots are going to want to spend too much time playing Holiday Spirits.
