- Great graphics and imagery
- Choose between two bonuses and features
- Disappointing maximum win
- NetEnt could have done more with the Christmas theme
Aloha! Christmas Edition is a slot from NetEnt that’s a remake of the original Aloha! Cluster Pays. Aloha! Christmas Edition is built around a 6-row, 6-reel format, and wins are formed by making clusters; 9 or more symbols are needed to form a win. There’s loads of new bonuses and features included inside Aloha! Christmas Edition including Sticky Win Re-Spins, multiplier wilds, and the main bonus round where there are two options to choose from.
Aloha! Cluster Pays was NetEnt’s first “Cluster Pays” mechanic, and it’s a type of slot that’s since been adopted by a number of other game developers; NetEnt’s new and revamped version of the original is called Aloha! Christmas Edition, and it’s designed to carry over the charm and fun-nature of the original slot while mixing things up with new bonuses and features, and a slightly new theme.
Graphically-speaking, Aloha! Christmas Edition doesn’t look particularly Christmas-y, in our opinion – but it’s got a pretty light and down-to-earth vibe about it along with a catchy theme track, so it’s actually quite a lot of fun to play.
Format and Betting Options
Like the original game, Aloha! Christmas Edition is built around a grid layout, and there are six rows and six reels. There are no paylines, as wins are formed by matching clusters of symbols.
Stake options are also decent, with the minimum bet just 0.10 credits. Higher-staking players will be pleased to know that they can bet as much as 200 credits on Aloha! Christmas Edition per spin!
Aloha! Christmas Edition RTP and Volatility
Aloha! Christmas Edition slots from NetEnt has a fixed RTP of 96%. This is a bit lower than the original Aloha Cluster Pays’ payout percentage of 96.42%.
NetEnt has clearly been trying to build more volatile slots in recent years, and this can certainly be said for Aloha! Christmas Edition; it’s a really volatile game, and, like we’ve seen the software provider do with other popular titles including Victorious and Secret of the Stones, there’s a “MAX” option available – although this is only present when you’re deciding which free spins option to choose.
Aloha! Christmas Edition Bonus Features
Up until now, Aloha! Christmas Edition looks pretty similar to the original Aloha! Cluster pays slot; when you look at the bonuses and features, however, it’s clear that NetEnt has mixed things up quite a bit – and in the following section of our Aloha! Christmas Edition review we’re going to be taking a look at what some of these new bonuses and features are.
The Mystery Symbols feature is a brand-new addition to Aloha! Christmas Edition, and they can now appear in both the base game and the main bonus round. These symbols can appear randomly on all reels, and when they land in view, they all transform to reveal the same symbol.
Sticky Win Re-Spins
The Sticky Win Re-spin feature was a well-loved addition in the original version of the game, and it’s no surprise to us to see it making a reappearance in Aloha! Christmas Edition. During the base game, any winning cluster of symbols can be randomly selected and chosen for the feature.
When it activates, any symbols involved with this win cluster are then locked in place, and the rest of the reels’ symbols then re-spin. If, on the re-spin, any additional winning symbols add to the cluster, they too are locked in place – and, once this process has completed itself, a multiplier is applied to the cluster win, up to 7X!
The Free Spins bonus round is arguably what most players will be looking out for in Aloha! Christmas Edition, and it’s triggered by landing three or more of the Stamp scatter symbols anywhere in view during the base game. You will then be awarded two different options; the first, is the Tiki Bar, which awards you 10 Free Spins during which multipliers of 2X, 3X or 4X can be applied to wins.
The second option – and the much more volatile of the two – is the Tiki Bar MAX option, which awards you with just six free spins. However, during this version of the bonus, a multiplier of up to 7X is applied to wins – so there’s far greater win-potential on offer.
Our Verdict of Aloha! Christmas Edition
We’re still not quite sure how NetEnt has managed to get away with calling Aloha! Christmas Edition a Christmas slot; sure, the little Totem man has a Christmas hat on, and there’s some seasonal cheer to be found – but in reality, this just looks like a beach holiday inspired video slot, and that, for us, doesn’t really warrant it being called a festive game!
Still, NetEnt has done a good job with Aloha! Christmas Edition, we feel. The original game proved really popular with players – and it’s nice to see a remake, almost 8 years after the original Aloha! Cluster Pays game first launched.
We really like that it’s possible to win additional free spins in the bonus round. The mystery symbols in the base game are a welcome addition too, and, combined with the randomly-triggered sticky win re-spin feature, there’s plenty to look forward to – both in the base game and the main bonus round.
However, when it comes to the win-potential – unfortunately, Aloha! Christmas Edition falls pretty short of our expectations. With the ability for players to win just 1,750X their stake on a single spin, there’s a lot left to be desired here, and we’re not sure why the software provider have chosen to implement such a small max win cap.

Aloha! Christmas Edition FAQs
How much can I win playing Aloha! Christmas Edition?
Pretty much the only “downside”, if you like, of Aloha! Christmas Edition is the fact that the maximum win is so low; you can win just 1,750X your stake on every spin/bonus. Of course, we say only – that’s still a fantastic win… but compared to some of the other games from leading game developers like Big Time Gaming and Quickspin, 1,750X your stake just seems a little too low, in our opinion.
What’s the RTP of Aloha! Christmas Edition?
NetEnt are generally regarded for building quite good RTPs into their games, and Aloha! Christmas Edition is one of the first we’ve seen in quite a while that is exactly 96%. While, in the past, we’re used to seeing slightly higher RTPs from NetEnt, it’s hardly the end of the world – and it’s not going to make a difference to players in the short-term.
How is Aloha! Christmas Edition different from the original Aloha! Cluster Pays?
While, on the face of it, Aloha! Christmas Edition may look pretty much identical to the original game, it does have a few differences. First of all, the mystery symbols can now appear in both the base game and the main bonus round, and when these land in view they all transform to reveal one symbol. What’s more, during the bonus round, you now collect starfish – and each three you collect awards two additional free spins, while removing the current lower-paying symbol from the reels.
What bonuses and features will I find in Aloha! Christmas Edition?
Aloha! Christmas Edition is packed with some fun-filled, action-packed bonuses and features, and the first you’ll notice – in the base game – is that randomly, symbols can be locked in place and re-spins awarded. Any new symbols that line up with the locked ones then also lock in place before yet another re-spin is awarded. The main Free Spins bonus round is the most popular of the bonuses and features in Aloha! Christmas Edition, however, is triggered by landing three or more of the scatter symbols anywhere in view. During the Free Spins bonus round, some of the game’s lower-paying symbols are removed from the reels, increasing your chances of hitting a big win!
