Introduction

Theme, graphics and soundtrack

After the welcome screen with the Amigo mascot and the twirling gun against the orange sky, we find ourselves in the subterranean realm of the casino. We are in the slot machine room, where the circular walls are lined with machines and stools ready to welcome players. In a nice touch, Amigo has added what sounds like a highly authentic recording of a casino crowd, with a hubbub of voices and all the beeps and pings of the physical slot machines. The grid is the characteristically smart Amigo presentation, with gleaming gold controls and simple white reels carrying the plain symbols.

There is no music; instead, there is a simple multiple-note electronic figure to accompany the reels. If you switch to turbo play, the notes vanish and you simply have the clunk of the reels. A small fanfare accompanies a big win and your success is underlined by a generic South American-accented voice proclaiming ‘big win!’ as the coins cascade. The symbols on winning lines briefly burst into flames. It is all very nicely done, if not particularly sophisticated.

How to play Amigo Gold Classic

1. If you click the cog settings icon, you can call up the bet wheel that enables you to set your chosen bet level from 5 to 5,000 by clicking and dragging the wheel. You can also access the bet wheel by clicking the button with the stacks of coins and using the plus and minus symbols to change the bet.
2. Click ‘auto’ to open the autoplay menu. This gives you a choice of automatic spins from five to infinity, or continuous until you stop autoplay mode. The temporary autoplay button that appears above the credit balance tells you how many autospins are remaining. Press this button again to exit autoplay.
3. The balance meter with the briefcase symbol to the bottom left of the screen displays your current balance, which is updated after each spin.

There is very little to be said about this game, as it is a completely pared-down 3x3 game. The only thing that separates it from its most basic predecessors is the fact that there are five paylines instead of just one. There are no bonus features - no wilds, no scatters, no free spins - just the reels and the wins. Or not, as the case may be.

There is no point recommending this to the kind of player who likes their themes rich and developed, as there is none of this here. It is a slot game; as such, it is entirely acceptable, despite the low payout. If it is not your thing, move along.
