Introduction

The setting for Kassius is an amphitheatre in Ancient Rome, with crowds packed into every available space in the stands. There’s such an incredible amount of detail in the graphics that it’s well worth spending a bit of time appreciating their quality. Even the lower-value playing card symbols are richly detailed with an enamelled effect.

Music plays out very quietly in the background, and you can just hear the murmuring of the crowd too. When you land a win, the flames either side of the reels release streams of fire, and the crowd roars its appreciation. Kassius Bonus Features & Free Spins

The golden eagle is the game’s wild symbol. It doesn’t offer any payouts on its own, but it can stand in for all other game symbols apart from the scatter. So every time it puts in an appearance, there’s a good chance it might contribute to one or more winning combinations.

Smaller golden eagle icons can appear stamped in the top right corner of any game symbol. Five of these icons activate the Eagle of Jupiter Bonus. The skies darken and the flames beside the reels spout blue flames as an eagle appears, picking up symbols that are replaced by wilds in a flash of lightning.

There’s another random reel modifier in the form of the Emperor’s Mercy Bonus. The emperor walks from left to right across the reels, giving each one the thumbs up or thumbs down. A thumbs up turns 1-3 symbols on that reel wild.

The wheel icon activates the Empress Care Bonus. This comes with 8 free spins, but before each one, the Empress spins her wheel, awarding a multiplier or additional free spins. And if a gold Empress appears, every multiplier on the wheel increases by 1x.

The Emperor and Gladiator icons introduce the Invictus Armis bonus and awards 10 free spins. Throughout this round, two extra symbols appear on the reels. A golden Emperor on reels 1 or 5 will activate the Emperor’s Mercy feature, delivering random wilds on one or more reels. A golden gladiator symbol on reel 3 activates the Eagle of Jupiter bonus, replacing low-value symbols with wilds

The Urn icon awards the Gladiator’s Bribe bonus. Here the Emperor tries to bribe the gladiator by offering him pots filled with cash. You’ll be granted between3 - 12 picks, requiring you to break the pots and collect the cash they contain.

Overall Review

Kassius is exciting, immersive and incredibly good fun to play. We found it heavy on the balance during the base game, but if you manage to trigger one of the bonus games, you can quickly make up for any losses and start to pull ahead. The graphics and animations are absolutely incredible, particularly the Eagle of Jupiter reel modifier in which the skies darken and lightning flashes across the reels.

You might not want to wager any of your own money on the game, but Kassius is such good fun to play that we recommend you try it out anyway.
