Theme, Graphics and Soundtrack

Sending up the almost sacred institution of the Thanksgiving holiday might seem in poor taste, but frankly it’s so commercialised that anything goes. So what we have is a slightly crazed-looking turkey with bright red wattle and a jaunty Pilgrim hat standing by as we spin the reels, which are arranged in a very autumnal grid. The rough wooden frame is decorated with browning leaves and berries, which also provide the beds for the symbols. On each win the turkey - inevitably - gobbles and clucks. It’s all nicely done, although there’s not much logic to some of the visual effects, like the throbbing title plate. The soundtrack is a strange mix of honky-tonk piano, pizzicato violins and tuba playing a decidedly minor-key loop that is neither celebratory nor festive. You’ll probably want to switch it off in the settings menu after it’s been round a few times.

How to Play Thankswinning

1. The game is played with six permanent paylines.
2. There are two ways to set your desired bet: use the up and down arrows either side of the Total Bet counter or simply click Max Bet to set the highest level permitted.
3. There is the option to turn on automatic play so you don’t have to keep spinning the reels manually. Click on the fast-forward button to the left of the main play button and the Auto Play menu appears. Select from five plays to 50, increasing in steps of five. Click the button again to close the menu. The reels will spin automatically for the number of spins you have selected or until you press the square stop button.
4. Fast play is available. Press the cog settings symbol to access this setting.
5. The balance counter at the bottom right displays your current balance, and this is updated following every spin. Winnings are displayed to the left of the balance.
6. You can hit the Spin button to start playing or just use the space bar. You can stop the reels by pressing the Spin button again.
7. All winning combinations pay from left to right only. Coinciding wins on different paylines are added, as are bonus wins. Only the highest win on each payline will pay out.
8. Wilds substitute for all symbols except bonus symbols. Any wild symbol substitution will pay the highest possible winning combination according to the paytable.
9. Combinations of three ‘7’ symbols will pay 6x the amount staked per line.
10. Combinations of any three ‘Bar’ symbols will pay 3x the amount staked per line.

The payouts aren’t huge, the RTP is a little below average, and although there are two jackpots the fact that the graphics and gameplay are very simple means that you really feel the lack of a bonus game just for a little relief. Nothing very special.
