Introduction

Wazdan is based on the island of Malta, a tiny EU member that was the first to introduce online gaming regulations and is now host to 10% of the world’s gaming companies. Wazdan is a respected game developer, and Turbo Play joins the many Wazdan demo slots available. It’s at the retro end of Wazdan’s portfolio, a long way from mythologically themed games like Wazdan's Double Tigers slot. It draws its classic slot theme from the oldest kind of fruit machine, getting right back to basics.

Turbo Play uses a standard 3x3-sized grid with just a single payline. The minimum coin and bet size is 0.1 and the maximum is 100.There are ten symbols: Pot, Vegas, Watermelon, Grapes, Bell, Plum, Pear, Orange, Lemon and Cherries.

Theme, graphics and soundtrack

When you launch the game, you are left in no doubt that this is not a game drenched in fantasy or action. The 3x3 grid dominates the screen, with just a modest background of purples and blues featuring perpetually rising stars. The reels sit on a faux-metal plate and the symbols are very big indeed. The background is a plain pale yellow, and the images are very simple line drawings with virtually no animation. There is not much of visual interest, and the soundtrack is a fairly unpleasant piece of electro muzak.

Turbo Play RTP and variance

According to Wazdan, Turbo Play has an RTP of 96.59 per cent. Other sources calculate this to be slightly lower at 96.1 percent. This is a pretty decent rate for an online slot. The variance is recorded as very high.

How to play Turbo Play

  1. Click the Spin button to start playing using the current total bet value.
  2. If you select the settings menu denoted by three horizontal lines, you may alter some basic settings, including full-screen mode, space bar to start, energy-saving mode, advanced or standard gaming, and big win presentation.
  3. Press Stop to stop the reels at any time during the spin to see the outcome.
  4. Press Auto Play to access the auto-play settings menu. This section will allow you to set various parameters to apply during auto-play. You may select the number of spins from 10 to 1000, and you can set the Autoplay function to stop at any win level, once a single win exceeds your chosen amount, or once your balance increases or decreases by set amounts.
  5. Switch between normal and fast play using the tortoise/hare/horse button. If you use fast mode repeatedly, you’ll be prompted to press the space bar for ultra high speed.
  6. Click on a bet value button to change the bet value or use the + and - buttons.
  7. The active counters display the current win and the current bet in cash.
  8. All wins are paid out on landing combinations of the same symbol on the single active line. Each new game costs one stake. The first level features just one win line and gives you the option to block the reels. Every game that contains blocked reels is a new game, and you are not obliged to play it. Instead you may unblock all the blocked reels. Also on this first level, the Wild substitutes for any of the five lowest-paying symbols on the third reel.

Turbo Play bonus features

Gamble Feature

This feature enables a player to double each win. Once the gamble feature has been activated, the player can choose from the following options:

  • The player may collect the winnings and exit the gamble feature.
  • The player may collect the winnings and continue to use the gamble feature with the remaining half of the winnings.
  • The player may continue using the gamble feature using all the winnings by selecting one of the two available symbols.

Once the player has selected a symbol, the game will perform an automatic draw to choose the winning symbol. The player may exit the gamble feature at the end of each round. If the player loses, the win value that is specified in the current win display is forfeited. The player is then returned to the base game. There are a total of seven rounds in the gamble feature.

Turbo Play review: our verdict

Wazdan have kept faith with their plan to produce a pared-down slot based on the familiar features of fruit machine games. It’s a very simply structured game, but the single payline makes it unusually challenging. The ‘stop’ option to hold any reel in place while spinning the others is a nice touch, but unfortunately, the game becomes a little monotonous, which is always the risk with such simplicity.

Are the spin results genuinely random?

Yes. All spins are controlled by random number generation algorithms, which means there is no human interference with the outcomes.
