Born in 1853, Van Gogh was a Dutch painter who created some of the most recognisable paintings known to this day including The Starry Night, Sunflowers, Skull of a Skeleton with a Burning Cigarette, Almond Blossoms and his many self-portraits.

He suffered greatly with depression, and on one occasion, he cut part of his ear off, an incident that inspired his painting, Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear. He succumbed to his mental health problems in 1890 by taking his own life.

It was only after his death that Van Gogh’s work was taken seriously, and he later became known as one of the most revered and respected artists of all time.

The Van Gogh slot (STHLM Gaming) looks as though it has been taken straight from one of his paintings, with his distinct brush strokes featured throughout. The slot title has been plucked from his work, with his signature sitting at the top of the reels. The background is of his painting, Bedroom in Arles, which includes a bedroom setting with blue walls and a chair positioned directly next to the bed.

The five reels set on a rough canvas material include several of Van Gogh’s paintings, plus the classic playing card symbols, which also look as though they have been painted by the famous artist. Players may recognise Still Life with Basket and Six Oranges, Apples, Citrus Fruit, Irises in a Vase and Sunflowers as the main symbols on the reels.

How to play Van Gogh

All of the playing options are situated at the bottom of the reels to avoid taking anything away from the artwork that features in the background and on the reels themselves. Right in the middle, you will find the spin button. This is larger than the other symbols, telling you exactly where you need to go to get things started. Before you do this, however, you should look at the other playing options.

The 20 paylines are fixed, but players can still adjust the amount spent per spin. This can be done by using the plus and minus symbols in the Bet section, where you can choose to stake a minimum of 0.10 or up to a maximum of 1 per spin
