Theme, graphics and soundtrack

The background Skywind have chosen is similar to others in their games in its emphasis on colour rather than form or detail. The wash of purple and blue may be a representation of the night sky or something more abstract - more of a feeling than an image. In any case, the focus is on the grid where four butterflies, identical except in colour, spin alongside playing card icons on the deepest of purple reels. There is no musical soundtrack - just a click when you press play and a sound like a drumroll as the reels come to a halt. Other sounds include clanging metal and brief piano chords. The odd part is the musical figure that plays on a win, which sounds more like the punchline music for an end-of-the-pier show. It breaks the mood, which is a slight shame. Otherwise, the design is well-judged.

How to play Butterfly Moon

1. Butterfly Moon is a slot with 5 paylines.
2. Click the minus and plus arrows to the left and right side of the coin value indicator to choose your bet settings. The coin value will automatically be multiplied by 50 as the cost of each spin.
3. Toggle Auto to ‘on’ to turn on the automatic spin mode. You are not able to choose a specific number of spins; auto mode simply starts and continues until you end it or until a special feature is triggered.
4. Toggle the turbo switch to ‘on’ in order to enter fast spin mode. In fast play mode, some of the animations and sounds will not be played.
5. Press the Play button or the space bar to spin the reels with the current bet. Press it again to stop the reels.

Butterfly Moon review: our verdict

This is an extremely straightforward game compared to other Skywind creations. There’s no real bonus feature and no progress bars or meters. The entire weight of expectation and interest lies in the simple gameplay, which is not helped by the uniformity of the images. We feel that although the RTP is on the right side of average, that alone would not be sufficient to tempt you to stay with this game for any length of time. It’s a shame because the theme is good and the colours are rich and powerful. The game itself is a little pedestrian.
