Introduction

Fun Fruit is an interesting modern take on the traditional fruit machine theme. It has a progressive multiplier in its base game that can reach up to 10x your win, and its 20 paylines are effectively doubled by the fact that win lines count from right to left and left to right. Its features include up to 50 free spins, a risk game, and a bonus game that can potentially win up to 300x your bet.

Theme, graphics and soundtrack

You may spot traditional cherries, strawberries and melons here, but the similarity between Fun Fruit and old-fashioned fruit machines ends there! A piano and guitar play a light-hearted soundtrack, while SmartSoft's small strawberry character stands at the side of reels watching hopefully for wins to come in. It cheers you on if you win at the risk game - and makes a very cute sighing sound when you lose - and jumps in front of the reels at the start of the bonus game. Fruits contributing to a winning payline splat immediately. This is a great animation, but it happens so quickly that you often don't get a chance to see what the win was. The reels are invisible, with the symbols bold against a bright purple background. The controls, information and line numbers are contained within colourful fruit splats. This slot looks and sounds exactly how it is supposed to - fun fruit!

Bet sizes & paytable wins

Coin values range from 0.1 to 1, or between 20 and 500 credits depending on whether you are playing the real or free version of the game. Wins apply on consecutive reels starting from right to left and from left to right. Payouts are expressed as multiples of the line bet. The wild substitutes for all fruits except the strawberry bonus scatter and coconut cocktail free spins scatter. It also has its own payout.

Fun Fruits bonus features

- Progressive multiplier

Consecutive wins in the base game are multiplied depending on the number of payouts in your winning streak. Your first win is paid at 1x and your second at 2x, progressing to a maximum of 10x your win. Bets cannot be adjusted during a winning streak.

- Risk game

For each win, you have the chance to double your win. Pick a higher card than the dealer and you win and have the option to play again; pick the same card and your win stays the same, but you get another turn; pick a lower card and you lose your winnings. Ace is high, so if you are presented with an ace and you don't fancy your chances, you can exit to the main game. Losing a game doesn't affect any winning streak multiplier in progress.

- Free spins

Three, four or five coconut cocktail scatter symbols will award 10, 25 and 50 free spins respectively. All free spins wins are multiplied by three, but the risk game is not available during this feature.

- Fun Fruit Fever

Land three, four or five strawberry scatter symbols and you will be taken to the Fun Fruits Fever bonus game, where you are awarded one, two or three spins of the bonus reels. Three reels sit inside a wheel of fruit. Once the bonus reels have spun, a marker will run around the segments on the wheel. If the marker lands on a fruit matching the symbols on one of the reels, you win a multiple of your bet. Depending on the matched fruit, you could win anything from 2x your bet for the cherries to 100x your bet for a plum.

Overall review

It may be quirkier than some online fruit themed slots and is miles away from the traditional slots such as the Fruit Mania demo slot, but Fun Fruit lives up to its name as it is fun to play. We were able to achieve a run of seven consecutive wins and managed to win ten free spins and trigger the Fun Fruit Fever bonus several times.
