How to play Golden Treasure

1. Once the game loads, you will be given a choice to play with or without sound. Once chosen, you will be taken to the reels.
2. To adjust your bet, click the bet amount and the + and - buttons to select the bet per spin.
3. Familiarise yourself with the game's settings, rules and paytable by clicking the menu button. You can also access settings for the sound and the autoplay feature.
4. The autoplay feature spins the reels automatically. If you wish to use this feature, go to the settings tab in the menu and switch the autoplay slider to the 'on' position; when you return to the reels, they will spin immediately. Note that there are no loss limit settings and the reels will spin until you click the autoplay button under the reels. Bet sizes range between 0.20 coins and 60 coins per spin.

Gamble 

During the base game, players can take the option to gamble a win directly after the spin by predicting the colour of a playing card. Correctly predicting the colour doubles the gambled amount, while an incorrect prediction loses it. The maximum number of winning gambles is five. Players can opt to keep half their winnings before gambling again.

Free spins

To trigger the bonus free spins feature, you need to land three or more treasure chest scatter symbols. You can open all but one of the chests landed to reveal how many bonus rounds you have won. All wins during the free games rounds are tripled. More treasure chests can land during the bonus rounds, meaning that the bonus feature can be retriggered multiple times. Winnings during the free spins bonus round cannot be gambled.

Golden Treasure review: our verdict

Golden Treasure is a traditional-style slot from Apollo Games. It has no wilds and few paylines, but it does have a modern-style free spins bonus. The number of free spins is determined by a 'pick me' game and wins during the bonus round are tripled. During our trial run, we found that small wins occurred fairly frequently in the base game but it was a long time before we landed a bonus with four treasure chests. The three we picked awarded 45 free spins but they played out without a win. With volatility that is difficult to pin down, this may not be a game for everyone despite its classic charm.
