Introduction

Nuts and Bolts is a 2015 offering from Roxor Gaming. It falls roughly within the futuristic niche, with a cartoon edge. There are five reels and 25 fixed paylines, with a straightforward interface for convenient gameplay.

The sound toggle and game information are to the top right. The user interface is below the reels, showing the fixed 25 lines to the left followed by coin size. In the middle is the win amount, and to the right is the main spin button. Below the interface is the calculation of your total bet.

There are 12 symbols in all, including the Nuts and Bolts game symbols, a microchip, a nut, a bolt, a ray gun, a spanner, and three cogs in blue, silver and red. There’s also a wild that will substitute any symbol to help create winning combinations.

Theme, Graphics & Soundtrack

Nuts and Bolts positions itself in the futuristic world of automation as we head to the heart of a robot factory. The niche of futuristic slots is popular for the ability of such games to transport us away from our current reality, to submerge us in a slightly mysterious and also slightly familiar new world. It’s reminiscent of the books and films we might have seen where everything is automated and sleek, and where robots rule the world.

The graphics take on a cartoon style and are basic but bold. The reels themselves are set within a computer machine, with all sorts of displays, switches, gauges and buttons in front and a system of pipes in the background. The symbols are encased in the metal surround, with what looks like a small robot to the right who pulls a lever for each reel spin. Another robot occasionally jumps onto the reels.

A lively soundtrack accompanies gameplay with a cheeky, adventurous and slightly comical edge. While the aesthetics and animations may be somewhat basic, the combination of these with the upbeat soundtrack gives this slot a novel and light-hearted feel.

Nuts and Bolts RTP & Volatility

Both the RTP and volatility are unknown for this slot. Without official statistics, our gameplay suggests it’s likely to have a lower volatility, with players anticipating lower but potentially more regular wins.

How to Play

1. To place your bet, simply use the +/- buttons to choose the coin size.

2. The total wager, which is the coin size multiplied by the 25 fixed paylines, will be calculated and displayed underneath the user controls.

3. No autoplay is available during the demo. If you’re happy with the wager, hit the green spin button and let the robots work their magic.

Bet Sizes & Paytable Wins

The minimum bet is 0.25 coins, with a 0.01 coin size played on 25 fixed lines. The maximum wager is 100.00 coins.

The maximum win is thought to be around 750,000. The Nuts and Bolts are the most valuable symbols, worth 300x for five of a kind. While the other base game symbols are more modest, repeated wins with the cascade respins could result in your perseverance paying off for bigger wins.

Nuts and Bolts Bonus Features

There are two main features in this slot. Unfortunately there are no free spins or jackpots, but there are extra chances to scoop prizes with respins and wilds.

Winning Streak

Each winning combination you score will get locked in place on the reels for a respin. Any new winning symbols that grace the reels will continue to lock for another respin. This chain reaction will continue until you get no new winning symbol combinations on the reels.

Extra Wilds

There are lightning pods above each reel. These will charge up during symbols locking into position for the respins. Lock in place all three symbols on a reel, and there will be an explosion followed by one turning into a wild. If you get three wilds already held in place on a reel, you’ll trigger another wild randomly on the reels.

Overall Review

We like the basic cartoon style of the graphics to make this a casual, fun slot to play. It shouts ‘futuristic’ quite nicely, and the upbeat soundtrack adds some zing. It’s a very simple slot to play as users need only select the coin size and hit spin, and minimum bets at just 0.25 are appealing for those wanting to keep expenditure low. The higher 100-coin maximum is adequate for the higher rollers, although the prizes on offer aren’t show-stopping. The maximum win is estimated at 750,000, and although the RTP and variance aren’t known, we would imagine a lower volatility in this slot. Perhaps it's low to medium given that payouts can stack up with the respins.

The bonuses on offer are a little lacklustre. We like the winning streak’s ability to keep the chain reaction of wins going and a few extra wilds can never hurt, but those looking for more excitement and novelty may be a little disappointed. It's unlikely to be a serious contender for longevity of gameplay and lucrative payouts, but it provides fun, lighthearted entertainment that doesn't require technical knowledge or much concentration, transporting you to the robot world with ease as you take a break from real-world worries for a while.

Continue the futuristic fantasy with Wild o Tron 3000, a 20-payline slot from NetEnt. With bets of between 0.20 and 200 coins, this offering has a decent 96.01% RTP and a wild feature for prizes of up to 500x the stake.
