Traditional Chinese culture is a popular theme for slots, with Pearl Palace fitting right into the mould. Strains of traditional music play each time the reels are spun, with the reels full of iconic symbols such as the coins tied with ribbons, golden sycees, and animals cast in gold and jewels sitting atop piles of golden treasure.

Graphics and animation

The artwork and animations are not particularly outstanding when compared with some slots. Winning symbols will pulse briefly as coloured lines highlight the payline they have landed on, although the pig wild symbol does a cute little barrel-roll when it contributes to a winning combination.

Winning combinations

All symbols will pay out for three or more of a kind along a payline; what’s more, the pig, fish and turtles will pay a small amount for two of a kind, both in the base game and the free spins round. Bonus scatters can land on reels one, three and five to trigger the free spins. 

Respins pearls also behave as scatter symbols. Any cash amount displayed on the respins pearls during the base game will not be paid out unless the respins feature is triggered.

Land the scatter symbol on three reels and you will trigger 12 free spins. There is no win multiplier in this feature, but the good news is that the free spins can be retriggered.

Progressive jackpots

The Pearl Palace slot has two progressive jackpots, which grow with each spin to increase the payout potential. 0.12 per cent of the bet contributes to the mega jackpot, while 0.2 per cent of the bet goes to the major jackpot. There is no limit on the jackpot amounts.

Respins bonus

Land five pearls to trigger the respins bonus feature, where you are awarded three respins. Each pearl either carries a cash prize or the major jackpot logo. 

At the beginning of the feature, the five or more pearls stick in place while the remainder of the symbol positions go blank. All the blank positions then spin. If one or more pearls land before the three respins run out, the number of respins is reset to three. The feature ends when three consecutive respins yield no more pearls or all 15 positions are filled with pearls. 

All cash prizes are added up and the total win amount is paid out, with the major jackpot awarded if one of the pearls carries the major jackpot logo. If all 15 spaces are filled, the mega jackpot is awarded.

Pearl Palace review: our verdict 

In terms of theme, Pearl Palace is not the most original, either in land-based casinos or online slots, and its animations and graphics are nothing special. We found during our test run in demo mode that the respins feature proved more exciting than the free spins, which lack a win multiplier; however, from our experience with the game, it is the latter that is more likely to pay. 

Is it worth a spin?

Overall, the Pearl Palace slot is fun to play but there is more engaging base game action in slots such as Nolimit City's Little Bighorn slot. This is a high-volatility game with a win rate of over 30 per cent.
