Introduction

Queen of Ice is a game developed by the Spinomenal team. It debuted in February 2022 and was immediately praised for its game mechanics. Like most Spinomenal free slots, it features a free spins round, and while it has passing similarities to Playtech’s Kingdom's Rise Reign of Ice slot, it distinguishes itself with its own special features. Queen of Ice features a 6x4 grid and has 25 paylines. The minimum coin size is 0.01 and the maximum is 10.00. The bet size ranges from 0.25 to 250.00. There are nine regular symbols. The higher-value ones are the Ice Crown, a Wolf, an Owl and an Ice Crystal. The lower ones are the top five playing cards. The wild is the Ice Queen, the bonus scatter is a jewel and the free spins symbol is an ice crystal ball.

Theme, Graphics and Soundtrack

The visuals are a little disappointing. The backdrop is a fairly uninteresting snowscape, and the images on the reels seem a little old-fashioned, never mind the impracticality of the queen’s bikini. The music is a slightly shapeless piece for strings but strikes an appropriately chilly tone. The animation is striking, and the big wins are celebrated with ostentatious coin cascades. Something of a mixed bag.

How to Play Queen of Ice

1. The bet selector is at the bottom left of the screen. As the 25 paylines are fixed the coin value you choose will be multiplied by 25 to give the total bet. Use the minus and plus to move through the levels available.
2. If you prefer to use automatic play rather than pressing play for every spin, simply click Auto Play. You do not have the chance to choose how many spins - the mode will simply spin the reels automatically until you press the button again to end the mode or until a special feature is triggered, which means you need to stop and take fresh action.
3. If you want to use fast play, toggle the image of the hare at the very bottom left on the black strip.
4. Click the play button or press the space bar to set the reels spinning. You can stop the reels early by clicking the play button again (it now has a square on display).
5. You can chose to buy 10 free spins instead of waiting for them to be triggered. Click the buy feature near the centre of the control panel and choose the bet level at which you would like to play your free spins. The price of purchase is 31x the bet you choose.
6. All symbols pay from left to right starting from the far left. Only the highest winning combination on each winning line will be paid.
7. Wild symbols substitute for all others except free spins and bonus symbols. 
8. Scattered bonus symbols, if there are three or more of them, will trigger the bonus game during the base game only.

Queen of Ice Bonus Features

Free Spins

Three or more scattered free spin symbols will award 10 free spins. The bet per line remains the same as in the triggering game.

During free spins 1, 2 or 3 any stacked wilds will be found on randomly selected reels for each spin, creating additional chances of a win.

Bonus Game

The game starts with three spins. Fill the meter by the collection of scattered winning symbols. One cell of the meter will be filled for every five winning symbols collected, and your winnings will increase. Through collecting scattered +1 spins you can win additional spins. After all spins have finished you will be rewarded according to the last filled cell.

Synced Reels

During the base game, for every spin, the game will sync two random reels so they are identical to each other, increasing the chance to win.

Expanding Wild

During the base game, if a wild appears on synced reels, this will expand and fill the entire reel. And six wilds on a winning line will pay 3000x the bet.

Gamble Feature

Queen of Ice is quite good fun. It isn’t the most exciting looking game, but it does have quite a number of interesting features and, of course, a genuine bonus game. The RTP is reasonable - it’s just a shame the maximum payout is fairly low. Worth a look.
