The Game Theme

It may just be called ‘Sailor Man’, but this game is about one very special sailor in particular. The central character is built around Popeye, an animated TV character who stole the imagination of young viewers in the 1930s, 40s and 50s. This means the game also has a nautical theme. The title of the game comes from the TV theme show, and sadly once it’s in your head, it’s hard to get it out! “I’m Popeye the sailor man….”

The Graphics

The graphics closely resemble those from the TV show. The best symbol is Popeye. However, Popeye’s nemesis, Bluto, is another high-earning symbol, as is the love of his life, Olive Oyl. Further winning symbols include a dumbbell, anchor, ship’s steering wheel, can of spinach (wild) and lighthouse (scatter symbol). The other symbols are the playing card letters/numbers 10, J, Q, K, A. The graphics have a suitably aged look, reminiscent of the actual TV show. Beyond the reels is a simple green and blue landscape. This game is a far cry from the meticulous imagery found in some modern slots.

The Sounds

This game has one of those slightly frustrating soundtracks that plays only when the reels spin, so never really takes off. The short burst of music is certainly inspired by the TV show theme, although it’s not quite the same. The game also has fun sound FX that are used to good effect,

How to Win at Sailor Man

This game has a typical slots format. Players win when three or more matching winning symbols land along one of the 20 paylines in both the base game and the free spins. Gameplay & Format

This Sailor Man slot review revealed the game to have a super-straightforward format and easy gameplay. It has KA Gaming’s excellent betting screen that allows you to simply pick a total bet rather than click your way through them. Spinning the reels and starting the auto function are also both super easy. When you play in demo mode you still choose a total bet - it just doesn’t cost you anything! 

Look & Feel 

Whilst the look and style of the game are retro, it’s intentional. The game was actually released in 2022 but evokes the style of the 1950's TV show that it is based on.

This game has a good free spins feature with up to 25 free spins. The total win in the free spins feature is no higher than the base game, however. The best bonus feature is actually the wild symbol, because it adds a random multiplier to any win that it helps to create.
