Introduction

You’d be forgiven at first glance for thinking Star Trex is just a knock-off version of a Star Trek-themed slot, but you’d be wrong!

This innovative slot from PlayPearls features an alien race based on dinosaurs, with our main character as a huge T-Rex who has been tasked to hunt down rebel ‘Dinos’ across the galaxy.

The main Dino is full of character and has plenty to say, making fierce statements and roaring throughout the game as well as acting as the Wild in the slot. The other symbols include some of the bounties he’s been sent to hunt, along with classic A - J playing card symbols to fill out the reels.

Wins are found in Star Trex by matching three or more symbols along one of the 25 active paylines starting on the leftmost reel. The Dino Hunter is the Wild and can replace any symbols - excluding the Bonus or Scatter symbols - to help you land winning combinations.

There are three special symbols in addition to the Wild to keep an eye open for, and these will trigger the free spins bonus or one of the two bonus games, depending on which symbols appear. We’ll look at the bonus features in this slot in more detail later in this review.

Theme, Graphics & Soundtrack

Star Trex is set in some sort of futuristic space station, flush with silver metal. Next to the reel is our Dino Hunter, the main character of the slot, holding a massive gun. The Dino Hunter clearly has plenty of self-confidence, making statements such as “I’m an equal opportunity ass-kicker”, “Damn, I’m good”, and “The bigger they are, the more they bleed”, along with some more *ahem* questionable phrases about being “God’s gift to women”.

How to Play Star Trex

1. To start playing Star Trex, first look in the bottom left corner. The key icons here are the cog (settings) and ‘?’ (paytable, rules, and paylines), which will help you understand the rules of the game.

Bonus Game 1

Find 3x Bonus Dino symbols in any position on the reels to trigger the first bonus game, which is a fight between the Dino Hunter and his elusive opponent. Win the fight to take home the biggest prizes.

Bonus Game 2

Find three or more spaceship Bonus symbols in any position to trigger the second bonus game, where you’ll be able to send the spaceship to search a selection of planets to try to find the outlaws our Dino Hunter is after. Each planet will have a random value attached to it (some can be 0), and you’ll win the total value of the planets you visit at the end of the round.

Free Spins

Conclusion

Overall, we found Star Trex to be a surprisingly interesting slot with an immersive storyline and well-developed characters. Although we really enjoyed listening to Dino Hunter’s comments, there were a few that we felt let the game down (specifically the ones referring to women) in terms of being an inclusive and modern slot, but they weren’t offensive enough to stop us from playing. The game does offer relatively low rewards and the bonus features are a little tricky to trigger, but there are plenty of prizes to be won, even in the base game.
