In the past few years, Microgaming has chosen to step back from developing their own video slots - instead, relying on smaller, less-well-known game studios to build their content for them. Triple Edge Studios is one of those software providers, which has developed the game Adventures of Dubloon Island - a Pirate-themed slot that offers a number of bonuses and features including free spins, jackpots and their famed HyperHold mechanic.

The slot is built around a 5-reel, 3-row format with 20 paylines. You can play from as little as 0.10 credits per spin. The maximum bet is a fairly decent 75 credits per spin, so there’s plenty of stake variety on offer here.

Graphics and Theme

Adventures of Dubloon Island is themed all around pirates - and it’s a theme we’ve seen in a huge number of video slots before, so the game developer were already up against it when they started to develop the game.

Unfortunately, we can’t help as though Triple Edge Studios have slightly missed the boat - and while the graphics aren’t particularly bad, they certainly don’t stand out too much. It just looks like another bog-standard slot that doesn’t offer anything too creative.

HyperHold Bonus

The HyperHold bonus is the main bonus round within Adventures of Dubloon Island, and it’s triggered by landing six or more of the HyperHold scatter symbols anywhere in view during the base-game. You will then be awarded 3 re-spins, and each time a new HyperHold scatter lands your free spin counter is reset to 3.

Each time a symbol lands in view it will be worth a cash prize worth between 1X and 50X your total bet. The symbols can also reveal one of the game’s four jackpots, worth up to 2,000X - or 3,333X your stake if the Win Booster mechanic is activated.

We were pleased to see that Adventures of Dubloon Island also offers players a free-spins bonus round, and this is triggered by landing 3, 4, or 5 of the scatter symbols anywhere in view during the base-game. During the free-spins, all the game’s lower-paying symbols are removed from the reels, so you can only land premiums. Adventures of Dubloon Island Review

At first glance, Triple Edge Studio’s Adventures of Dubloon Island looks pretty similar to Assassin Moon - another slot which incorporated a number of the same bonuses and features. The HyperHold feature - found within both slots - is the main feature in Adventures of Dubloon Island as well, and you’ll see the four non-progressive jackpots outlined at the top of the screen above the reels. However, look a bit deeper, and you’ll notice there are quite a few differences between the games.

Adventures of Dubloon Island, for example, offers players a free-spins bonus round - something that Assassin Moon didn’t - and we feel as though this is a really beneficial addition to the slot. Not only does it offer more variety in terms of bonuses and features - but it also gives players more chances to win, and there’s more to look out for in terms of bonus action.

Unfortunately, when it comes to the game’s creativity, Adventures of Dubloon Island falls a little short of what we’d expect to see in today’s iGaming world. The game doesn’t do much to differentiate itself from many of the other similarly-themed games out there on the market, and while it doesn’t look awful, there’s certainly nothing within the game that really makes it stand out.

However, on the whole, the gameplay is fairly exciting, there’s some (semi) decent win-potential to be found within the bonuses and features, and Adventures of Dubloon Island is likely to do relatively well, especially since it will be pushed out via Microgaming’s Quickfire platform.
