Introduction 

Alchemistress is a new online slot from game maker High 5 Games. It has 20 fixed bet ways paying left to right which are generated by a 5x3 reel set. The maximum payout is x6240.

There are three special symbols in Alchemistress, including a wild which appears on the centre reels and substitutes for regular paying symbols. There is a bonus symbol which triggers free spins when three or more appear anywhere on the reels. Finally, there is a scroll symbol which appears on the fifth reel, and this can impact on multipliers in the next sequence of free games.

There are three multipliers which appear above the main game screen, and they relate to the three different levels of symbols - low-, medium- and high-value ones with matching colours. 

They begin in the base game at x1, and each low-value symbol contributes points to raising the multiplier from an initial x1 when 33 are accumulated by x1.

Theme, Graphics and Soundtrack 

The theme of the game is fantasy with the eponymous Alchemistress in animated form standing on the left of the reels at all times. The colour of the screen reflects her purple dress, and the multipliers sit in vessels above the reels.

The controls are simple and clear, although the background is a little cluttered and the reels could be larger.

The soundtrack does little to add to the enjoyment of the game, and players may choose to mute it.

This is an interesting game from High 5 Games, but we feel they have made it over-complicated, and as often with this designer they have missed the mark. The mechanic of the multipliers is unnecessarily complicated but quite helpful when it does come around to being applied.

The free spins are easier to land due to the variance, and at least this phase is straightforward, although they do not re-trigger.
