When you open up the game, before you actually start playing, you get the sounds of a haunted house (or maybe just an old house) - wind blowing, creaking, and a faint crying sound in the background. Then, when you start to play the game, you hear lively Mexican music, perhaps a little out of keeping with the Dance of Death.

You will understand from this that Danza De Los Muertos is a Mexican themed game, although carnival-styled Mexico rather than every day, 21st-century Mexico. It is based on the allegory of characters dancing their way to their graves.

The backdrop of the game is a cemetery with various graves bedecked with candles. The reels of the game itself are set in a large tomb in the shape of a house, sitting above the ground. A couple of skulls at the edges of the tomb confer a suitably spooky feel to the game.

Our verdict

We thought the theme of this game was novel; we don’t see it very often and thought it was original. We particularly liked the graphics because they were different. We also liked the fact that clicking on the cog symbol took us to a menu of options about the symbols, pay lines and how to play the game.

We found the game was slow to load, whatever time of the day we played it. We stopped playing for a short time and had to re-load it. We got lots of connection errors, too, and the problem was not our ISP.

We like the fact that we didn’t have to increase our bet size to get the big wins, and the scary lady in black flashed up the multiplier on her dress when we won. Overall, we thought it was quite good fun to play. The special features made it a bit more exciting, especially the way the scary lady moved her arms when we won.
