Darling of Fortune Review
Darling of Fortune is a novel scratch card symbol match oddity from Novomatic that differs quite considerably from the regular types of free slots game that we have on our site.
Instead of spinning to win, players instead scratch away at a virtual scratch card in the hopes of revealing winning symbol matches.
Fans of our many slots games will feel right at home here despite the apparent differences, with a unique style of play that serves as a great alternative to the standard game types.
The scratching action required is surprisingly fun and adds a much needed layer of interactivity to the game.
In lieu of confusing special features and complicated conditional bonuses, Darling of Fortune is a refreshingly no-frills affair, instead concentrating on the core gameplay with a greater focus on big jackpots.
Like a number of our other games, Darling of Fortune can be played on either browsers or mobile and tablet devices, including both Android and IOS systems, something that makes it equally suited to gaming at home or on the go.
The scratching action required in particular makes it ideally suited to touch screens, providing a novel tactile element.
The graphics are contemporary and stylised, boasting a clean minimalist interface that makes it very easy to keep track of key information like your current balance.
The symbols all have a hand-drawn, retro quality to them and the game features a colourful cast of characters such as pigs, fairies, strange men and donkeys that excrete the gold coins which make up the higher value prize symbols.
The lower value symbols are represented by inanimate objects such as four leaf clovers, horseshoes and toadstools.
The cards themselves are configured in a 3x3 layout, and each card comes with nine completely random symbols. A range of generous prizes are awarded to players who mange to find three matching symbols on a single card in any configuration or orientation.
In total there are eight game symbols, five of which award upper value prizes with the remaning sorts awarding prizes of a lesser value. Instead of making a bet as in regular slots game, you instead buy scratch cards which are worth 100 credits each.
The most valuable of the all the game symbols is the fairy, pictured wearing a red dress. Finding three of these on a scratch card will award a massive top prize of 1,000,000 credits. Next up is the creepy man in a top hat holding a whip and a ladder (possibly an old-school animal tamer of some kind), which awards much smaller (though still pretty generous) prizes of 500,000 credits.
At the bottom of the scale is the lowly red toadstool, the least valuable symbol in the game. Three of these will award lucky players with a measly 200 credits.
Don't despair at the mushrooms though, as with numerous winning opportunities, perseverance and just a little bit of luck even these smaller size prizes can soon add up to something much bigger in no time at all.
