Fancy Fruits Double Rush Review
What’s a double rush? Well, in this game it means that every time you place a bet you receive not one but two spins.
You can play this game in demo mode before risking any real money, and it’s a good idea to do this so you can get used to the rules.
Theme, Graphics & Soundtrack
Let’s be clear, this is not the place for you if you’re looking for a sparkling, immersive aesthetic experience. The simple nature of the narrative - fruit - is reflected in the rendering of the graphics, which are extremely basic with only the slightest nod to a world that exists beyond a 1998 Clip Art CD ROM. Therefore the title ‘Fancy Fruits’ is definitely pushing the Trade Descriptions Act to its very limit.
The background is a plain purple and orange, and everything else is mostly primary colours. Thank god for purple and orange, eh? Let’s hope all the effort has gone into the gameplay (spoiler - it hasn’t).
The game’s sound effects are similarly rudimentary. The reels clack and whir and a little electronic jingle plays as they spin. It all sounds very Casio keyboard. With the absence of a narrative beyond fruit, it’s not easy to tell if this is deliberate or not.
In case you were going to forget the name of the game you were playing, which literally has nothing but fruit on the screen, a woman handily reminds you of the title. She exclaims ‘Fancy fruits!’ over a tune that can best be described as ‘1994 afternoon chat show on Sky One’. The only diversion from the standard game sound is when you create a winning combination. And it sounds exactly like it was sampled from Supermarket Sweep.

How to Play Fancy Fruits Double Rush
1. On the bottom left of the screen is a blue button with numbers and a dollar sign on it. Click this button to view the paytable and game information.
2. The orange button to the right shows you how many lines are in play.
3. The next orange button controls your bet amount. Use the + and - tabs to increase or increase your bet amount. Please note that it displays your bet amount per line, so if it shows 0.02, because there are five lines you are actually playing a total bet of 1.0.
4. In the black centre section of the screen your total bet amount and balance are displayed.
5. The purple button, MAX BET, on the bottom right of the screen allows you to automatically select the max bet amount playable for this game.
6. Next to it, a green Autospin button gives you the option to set spending limits whilst in this mode. You can set it to stop if your balance reduces by a predetermined amount. You can also set it to stop when your balance increases by a particular amount or if you trigger a bonus feature.
7. To start the game manually, use the larger green SPIN button with circular arrows on the far right of the bottom of the screen.
Fancy Fruits Double Rush Bonus Features
There are no bonus features on Fancy Fruits Double Rush. But you already knew that, didn’t you?
Honestly, it’s difficult to know if the developers were intending to build a novelty classic style slot and took the brief too far, or whether this is genuinely intended to compete with the feature-heavy HD online slots that make up 99% of the rest of the market. For the purposes of this review we’ve had to assume the latter, but if it was the former then it's a triumph.
On a positive note, if all you’ve ever really wanted is to strip everything back to the type of fruit machine experience that existed on a Commodore 64, this is your dream come true. This game is yet to receive a volatility rating, but the good news on that score is that you should be able to work this out quite easily for yourself, as there are no features or confusing narratives to distract you.
So all in all, this experience is a bit like being off sick from school in the ‘90s. The afternoon bit where your mum has allowed you to get out of bed to watch TV. Because you keep shouting downstairs for more squash and biscuits, and she’s had enough.
And if you want to see where it all began, check out the original Fancy Fruits slot.
