Outback Walkabout is a fun slots game from High 5 Games. With its Aussie outback theme, it offers something different to the usual Vegas, Far East, animal and Egyptian themed slots that are so popular in online casinos. With its generous 243 ways to win, you'll find the winning combos coming in fast and furious as the reels land. Outback Walkabout also offers exciting special features and easy yet enjoyable gameplay. The High 5 Games team is known for its incredible attention to detail, and this is certainly one of the more attractively designed slots you'll come across. You'll love the animated symbols that spring into life whenever they are part of a winning combo, as well as the fun sound effects that add to the excitement of the game.
This is a tumbling reels game, meaning each spin gives you multiple chances to win, providing you keep forming winning combos. In a regular slots game, the reels land into position, winning combos - if any - are paid out and you then have to spin again in order to keep playing. In a tumbling reels slots game, winning combos are paid out and the winning symbols are removed from the reels. New symbols fall from above to fill in the gaps, meaning there is the chance to form new winning combos. In most tumbling reels slots - including this one - this pattern continues until no new wins are formed by the tumbling reels. If you get lucky, you can trigger several wins from a single spin, making this a game that keeps on giving.
About High 5 Games
While it's not one of the biggest names in online gaming, High 5 is going from strength to strength and is more than capable of holding its own against more established names such as NetEnt, Playtech and Microgaming. Outback Walkabout design
This is a colourful and fun slots game that will appeal to anyone who enjoys slots where there's a bit more going on! Anyone who prefers streamlined and simple slots might find this all a little much, but if you like to be kept entertained and engaged at all times, you'll love Outback Walkabout. The game reels are set against the iconic and instantly recognisable backdrop of Uluru, the huge sacred rock in Australia's Northern Territory, commonly known as Ayers Rock. With its details of dry outback bush and deep blue skies, the game's backdrop will instantly transport you to the hot, arid landscape. The reels themselves are dark blue in colour, making the colourful symbols really stand out.
This is a five-reel game and there are three symbols on each reel. This means you have 15 active symbols at any time. There are no paylines as such, as this is a 243 ways to win game. That means that rather than straight paylines, all you need to win is three or more matching symbols on adjacent reels, starting with the leftmost reel. Symbols can appear anywhere on the reels, as long as they are on adjacent reels. This gives you lots of chances to form winning combos and puts an end to the frustration of almost forming a lucrative winning combo only to have a single symbol in a slightly wrong position on an active payline! It's also easy to see whether you've won or not at a glance, as you don't need to learn where the paylines are.
The game's symbols are a mixture of basic playing card symbols and more highly paying picture symbols. Even the basic symbols are animated when they form a win, though. The picture symbols are beautifully illustrated and include native animals such as koalas and kangaroos, along with human characters. The game's sound effects include music and roaring animals, along with special sounds that are triggered when you land a win. Aboriginal music plays when you spin the reels. You'll hear the unmistakable sound of the didgeridoo, along with animal noises such as the roar of a dingo.
Outback Walkabout symbols
As mentioned above, you'll find lower paying card symbols and more lucrative picture symbols. The card symbols are Q, K and A. There are only three of these - fewer than you might expect to find in most online slots. This is no bad thing, as it means there is more room for the higher paying picture symbols and the game's special symbols. The Q, K and A all pay out at the same rate of 5, 15 and 50 coins for a combo of three, four and five, respectively. You'll need three or more to land on adjacent reels, starting with the leftmost reel, in order to land any win. You can win multiple times in a single spin. Next come the three standard picture symbols. These all feature iconic Australian animals and, again, you'll need three or more on consecutive reels to scoop a payout. The koala is the highest paying of these and you'll land an impressive 250 coins if you manage to get five in a row. The final picture symbol is the female ranger. She is both a regular symbol and a special symbol, depending on how she appears. Land five of this symbol in a line and you'll get an incredible 300 coins. This symbol can also appear as a double symbol, however, meaning it's possible to form a winning combo featuring up to 10 of this highly paying symbol! If you're lucky enough to get five double symbols, you'll be rewarded with a payout of 2,000 coins - the top prize possible from a single symbol in this game.
Outback Walkabout special symbols
There are just two special symbols in the base game, and another one in the free spins round. As mentioned above, the park ranger symbol can appear as a regular, yet highly paying, symbol and as a special double symbol. If you land the double symbol, it counts as two symbols. This means that it's possible to make a winning combo of three or more symbols on the first two lines alone, providing at least one of the park ranger symbols is a double symbol. It's possible to build some huge wins in this way, and you can get up to 10 symbols in a single line, paying out a whopping 2,000 coins! This symbol also plays a special role in the game's free spins rounds. You can read more about this shortly.
The game's other special symbol is the scatter. This appears on the central three reels - 2, 3 and 4. It can appear in any position on the reels and awards you free games. The number of free games you'll receive is seven, eight or nine.
Outback Walkabout free spins
The free spins round is triggered when you land three scatters on the reels. These scatters appear on the three central reels and can land in any position in order to activate the free spins feature. You will receive seven, eight or nine free spins. The free spins are played at the same bet level as the spin in the base game that triggered the special feature. Sadly, free spins cannot be re-triggered in this game, so you won't be able to win any more during your free session. There is a fun special addition to the reels, however, in the form of a new symbol. You'll remember that the game's highest paying symbol, the park ranger, can be either a regular single symbol or a double. Well, in the free spins session, it can also be single or double, but there is a another symbol, too. This is a pair of binoculars. When this appears anywhere on reel 5 - the only reel it's present on - all existing park ranger symbols become double. Even better, the binoculars symbol itself also becomes a double park ranger symbol. Not only that, but all subsequent park ranger symbols that fall down in the tumbling reels feature for the rest of that spin are also transformed into double symbols. As you can imagine, this paves the way for some impressive payouts. Once no new winning combos are formed by the falling symbols, the spin is over and the next spin will begin.
Other slots you might like
While this is quite a niche title, and there aren't many similarly themed slots out there, there are other games that have similar gameplay. For example, if you love the split symbol aspect of this game, you might enjoy White King 2, as this also features similar split symbols. This gives you great winning potential and makes every spin that little bit more exciting. You might also like to check out the Age of the Gods series, which all have excellent free spins features and are some of the top mythology slots around at the moment. Trying out lots of free slot demos (https://www.slotstemple.com/free-slots/) is the best way to explore some of the thousands of different types of slots out there and to find your favourites. You might find you love tumbling reels slots after playing Outback Walkabout, so you might want to hunt out other games with this fun feature. Alternatively, if this isn't for you, you might prefer to look up some games with regular reels where each spin finishes rather than triggers a tumble.
