Konami was founded in Japan in 1969 by Kagamasa Kouzuki. Like many gaming houses, it started by making physical slot machines and arcade games; however, by partnering with American game...s developers, it has become a force to be reckoned with worldwide in the gaming industry. In 2005, it moved the company's main base to - where else? - Las Vegas. Pride of Egypt's title screen has a lion wearing an ancient Egyptian beard plait and staring intensely at you in super-realistic detail. We know that some of the earliest pictures of lions were made by Ancient Egyptians and that many of their gods and goddesses had features of lions. As lions generally lived at the edge of the desert, where the sun seemed to rise and set, they were known as the sun's guardians. The Ancient Egyptian god of war was also shown with a lion’s head. Of course, cats were greatly esteemed; in fact, they were admired to such an extent that the Egyptians had harsh penalties for anyone who harmed a cat. The half-cat, half-woman goddess is called Bastet. Konami published Pride of Egypt in 2012 and it has been a mega-popular Ancient Egypt slot ever since.

Action stacked symbols in Pride of Egypt

Konami is famous for its unusual bonus features, with action stacked symbols amongst the best. This is a feature in which adjacent symbols are randomly replaced by other symbols. In Pride of Egypt, you have symbols of the lion god, the cat goddess, a colourful purple and blue flag, an ornate fan with peacocks eyes on it, and a beautiful blue and gold ring. There is also a fantastic pyramid covered in symbols and patterns. All the symbols are richly coloured and excellently drawn; in addition, of course, there are the usual playing cards.

Action stacked symbols in Pride of Egypt

Action stacked symbols are a Konami special, so let’s look at how they work. There are a number of adjacent positions on each reel that are randomly replaced with one of the game's symbols, as described earlier. All the positions are filled with the same symbol, which greatly increases your chances of winning.

The Cut And Paste feature in Pride of Egypt

There is a further feature that Konami calls its Cut And Paste feature. When the same symbol is on every position of reel one, one or more of the other four reels will be selected randomly. On this reel -or reels - all the symbols will be replaced by the symbol on reel one.

Pride of Egypt free games feature

Three, four or five pyramid symbols will trigger 5, 10 or 15 games respectively. During these free games, all your winnings are doubled; what’s more, you can win more free games during the free games! When this feature is active, all the plays are on 30 lines, which is another great bonus! As is generally the case, the number of credits wagered is the same as it was when the feature was triggered.

Balance of Fortune bonus feature in Pride of Egypt

An unusual feature is that when the free game bonus is triggered, you can either play the games by choosing the free game option or you can exchange the free games by choosing the credit prize option. When this feature is live, you will see a pair of scales.

In effect, you are selling your free games, but there is a bit of a gamble involved. The credit prize is a random amount. On average, it is more when you exchange more free games; however, what does this ‘on average’ mean? Of course, it means that sometimes you won't get more!

The smallest possible credit prize amount that can be displayed is 25, while the greatest possible credit prize amount is 407,700.

You can trigger the feature in the middle of playing free games by clicking or pressing on the scales symbol. You can then swap the rest of your games for a credit prize as long as you have more than 20 free games outstanding.

Pride of Egypt - symbol payouts

The lion god is the substitute - what other games call the wild - and will stand in for all the symbols except the pyramid. Five, four or three lion gods will award you 500, 125 and 75 credits respectively. The pyramid is the trigger - think scatter - and pays 50, 15 and 5 for five, four and three appearances.

Five cat goddesses are worth 250, four are worth 100, and three are worth 50. The blue ring and the ornate fan earn the same - five are worth 200, four are worth 75, and three are worth 25. The flag and the crossed daggers also earn the same - five are worth 150, four are worth 50, and three are worth 15.

Let’s move on to the playing cards. The ace and king will bring you 75 for five appearances, 25 for four, and 10 for three. The queen, jack, 10 and 9 all have the same awards: 50 for five appearances, 15 for four, and 5 for three appearances.

Pride of Egypt game rules and wagering

The minimum stake is 30 credits, so this is pretty much a game for the higher rollers! Luckily, you can take advantage of Konami free slots right here at Slots Temple. The winning payouts are only on selected lines and - as is usual with most slots - wins are counted from the leftmost reel to the one on the right. Symbols have to appear on adjacent reels, with the exception of the scatter. This can appear anywhere on the reels.

In Pride of Egypt, as is typical, you will only get the top win on each line. By the same measure, only the highest of any scatter wins will pay out. Scatter wins are always multiplied by the number of lines in play, with this total further multiplied by the line bet.

If more than one payline is active - that is, if different lines are lit - the wins on every active line are added together. Wins are shown in money rather than coins or credits; of course, every line win is multiplied by the credits or coins per line that you are staking..

Konami take the trouble to clarify a gaming point that many players make a mistake with. Its rules remind players that when they see a near miss, this does not imply that they nearly won, as the display is not an indicator of how close they came to winning. In other words, the display may have been just one symbol or one move away from a big win but this doesn't influence the result of the next spin at all or imply that a win is imminent. This applies both on mobile and tablet.

Customising Pride of Egypt wagers

The dashboard below the gameplay area has an indicator that shows how much currency or how many credits you currently have. Next in line is a button that says ‘denom’. This is short for denomination and this box enables you to customise your bet level to 0.01, 0.05, 0.1, 0.25, 0.5 or 1.0. When you alter the bet level, the total bet, which is shown on the spin button, is changed to reflect the new amount.

To the right of spin control is the indicator showing the bet per line, which has arrows on either side. These can be used to adjust the wager per line up or down. One odd thing about this is that when you click it, you will see the values one, two, five and six. Where are the three and four? Have the lions eaten them or were they unlucky in Ancient Egypt?

The max bet also operates in a somewhat unusual way. You would expect it to set the denomination at the highest level and the bet per line similarly to the highest number; however, it appears only to change the bet per line. If you have 1.0 as the denominator and press the bet per line upwards until you reach six, you would have a bet total of 180,000, whereas if you set 0.05 as the denomination with a betting line of six and you then press max bet, nothing happens. The betting total stays the same at 9.0, which is weird!

Customising the game controls

The autoplay button gives you the option of setting the number of autospins to 10, 25, 50, 100, 250 or even an enormous 500. When automatic play is running, the spin button on the dashboard shows ‘stop’ and pressing or clicking on this will interrupt the autoplay. If you stop the automatic spins before they finish, it won't make any difference to the bet outcome.

Pride of Egypt has a very useful turbo button. To locate it, you first need to click or press the help button to the left of the dashboard. When the turbo option is selected, you will see a tick beside it; when it is turned off, a cross is displayed. What is extremely useful is that if you begin a long series of autoplays but forget to use turbo, you can change the setting even while the autoplays are in progress without needing to stop the spins.

The help button also enables you to toggle the sound on or off. You can use the help/pay option to take you into Pride of Egypt's help system. In addition to the paytable and game rules, the help section shows you every possible win line in this game. The final page is useful in that it runs through the control options. The lobby selection on the help button will take you back to the previous web page.

If you loved Pride Of Egypt, try these….

For some reason, Ancient Egypt is incredibly popular with developers as a games theme. There are hundreds of Egypt-themed slots - some serious, some spooky and some comical. If you want to explore them, just go up to the themes option at the top of the screen and scroll down. You will see all the Ancient Egypt slots gathered together in one place and can browse them to your heart's content.

Some of the titles don't make any attempt at authenticity and take the cartoonists’ view of Egyptian history, such as winking pharaohs and sexy Cleopatras. Others are highly authentic and show evidence of lots of research and great production values. One of the best is the Legacy of Egypt slot from the developers at Play’n GO.

This is a stunning looking slot, with fantastic animations and really amazing graphics. This title has two separate methods of triggering the free spins round, which is great. Three scatters activate the free spins, during which these scatters become wilds; in addition, there is a different multiplier for every spin! Two or more wild scatters during the free spins trigger the Pyramid spins feature; in addition, you can use the Wheel of the Gods to win up to 20 free spins.

In the base game, the highest prize available is your line bet multiplied by 300; however, the scarab is wild and five of these will see your bet multiplied by 500. This is a brilliant slot - give it a try and you won't be disappointed.

On the other hand, if it is Konami slots that are your thing and in particular action stacked symbols, you won't be disappointed by Konami's Rawhide. This has ultra-colourful graphics, a generally cheerful approach, and a jaunty soundtrack. It also has the popular action stacked symbols whereby some of the symbols are randomly replaced by another symbol to hugely boost your chance of winning. We love the fact that the Wanted poster of the girl bandit gets torn down and instead we see her on her horse. Could it possibly be the marshal who takes the poster down? You decide!

All these slots and more are free to play right here at Slots Temple.
