Think of sushi and you almost certainly imagine delicious little parcels of rice, vegetables and fish tightly rolled in seaweed wraps. There’s a happy little soul with a weird pink headpiece that has eyes, and there’s a mysterious but elegant sushi lady dressed in a red robe. Strangest of all is the Samurai Sushi himself, an octopus in martial arts gear who occasionally appears as a giant symbol on the reels.

The soundtrack that accompanies gameplay is as strange and quirky as the game itself. Think xylophones and jazzy rhythms and you’ll be heading along the right lines. Add in a jiggling green sushi Wild dressed as a Sumo Wrestler, and you’re ready to start playing!

How to Play Samurai Sushi

The gaming interface for Samurai Sushi is very uncluttered. To save you from hunting around for the controls, just follow our step-by-step guide to get started.

1. Your first port of call is to tap on the triple-line menu button. Now tap on the cog symbol to open up the betting menu.

2. The 50 paylines in the game are fixed, so you just need to move the slider to set your payline stake. This is multiplied x50 with your total stake shown at the top of the screen.

3. Now tap on the ‘X’ icon to close the menu and tap on Spin to play out one game.

4. Press and hold Spin to activate infinite automatic spins that you can stop by tapping on Spin during play.

5. Sound settings are accessed via that game’s main menu.

The green sushi sumo wrestler is the game’s Wild symbol. He only appears on reels 2, 3 and 4, so he can’t spin up any winnings on his own. But he can act as a symbol substitute for everything in the game apart from the Scatter and Bonus.

Land three teahouse Scatter symbols anywhere on the reels to trigger the game’s Free Spins Bonus round. You’ll be awarded 15 Free Spins, and the scene around the reels switches to evening time. The music goes up a notch, too, and a Bonus symbol is added to the reels. This symbol only appears during Free Spins and you’ll need to land at least three to activate the Bonus game. Pick a Samurai to win a Multiplier prize that could be worth up to 50x your total stake.

Overall Review

Samurai Sushi is one of the quirkiest games we’ve seen, with a distinctly odd theme. It is easy to feel affection for the cute sushi characters, although whether that will keep gamers playing for long is another matter. The paytable is frankly quite woeful - even landing five-of-a-kind, low-value symbols won’t return your stake. To make any real headway in this game, you’ll need to spin up multiple winning combinations with every spin or activate the Free Spins bonus on a regular basis.
