Snegurochka, or the Snow Maiden, is a character with her origins in Russian folklore. The traditional fairy tale starts with a childless couple sculpting Snegurochka from snow. She then magically comes to life and her beauty draws the attention of a local lad who subsequently falls in love with her; however, as she is made from snow rather than being a human, she is incapable of loving him back. This distresses her so much that she calls upon her true mother, Spring, to grant her the ability to love. 

Spring warns her that possessing the power of love would kill her within minutes, but this doesn't console Snegurochka. She wants to feel love more than anything in the world, so Spring reluctantly agrees to the Snow Maiden's pleading and grants her wish. As Snegurochka and her lover finally embrace, the warmth of the love in her heart melts her away to nothing. 

Snegurochka is also associated with the Christmas season in Russia. She appears every year as the granddaughter and assistant of Ded Moroz, the Russian equivalent of Santa Claus. Traditionally, she wears blue and silver robes and a cap or a crown made of ice or snowflakes. 

Snegurochka's role in this slot is as the stacked wild.
