The Ghouls Theme & Design

The Ghouls has a delightfully dark Asian theme that appears to take place inside an ancient Chinese crypt. It’s very dark and creepy, which makes the shimmering gold symbols pop out from the shadows of the background. There a definite dark fantasy theme here that comes very close to horror, with glittering jewelled eyes peering out from the shadowy depths of carved stone. The reels feature gems and card symbols that look like they’re made from gems, along with other items like a glittering sabre, ornate jewellery and golden compasses.

The Ghouls Animations & Audio

The animation in The Ghouls is refreshingly minimal, with the main screen only having flickering torches and the spin animation. The reel spin is nice and fast, but with many CQ9 titles the win announcement is a bit intrusive. With this game, the win announcement takes up the whole screen but can thankfully be clicked away at a decent speed. The soundtrack is very satisfying, with an Oriental fantasy feel that fits the main theme perfectly. It’s not on a quick loop either, so it doesn’t get boring as in other games.

How to Play The Ghouls

There are only a few buttons on the game screen, which is nice because it keeps things really simple and easy to understand. There are three buttons on the right of the screen. Use the plus and minus buttons to change your bet. The updated total will display on the bottom right. Then the only thing you have to do is press the CQ9 logo button to set the wheels in motion. Any wins you receive will show up on the screen and the winning payline will light up. The Wild symbol is a treasure chest, and it can substitute for every symbol except the Scatter.

The Ghouls Bonus Feature & Free Spins

The free spins bonus game in The Ghouls is triggered by the golden compass Scatter symbol. You will get a multiplier bonus depending on how many Scatters show up and a 12 free spins on upgraded reels. Three Scatter symbols will get you a 2x multiplier, whilst four will get you 20x and five will grant 50x. Once you enter the free game, all the game symbols get upgraded by one level (shown on the paytable within the game). The free game is played with the same bet amount that was on the reels when the game was triggered, and they can be retriggered up to 100 times during the game.

The Ghouls is a dark, creepy game that envelopes players in to a dark fantasy world with its gorgeous graphics and thrilling soundtrack.
