High 5 Games has really gone to town with the graphics in Wild Rodeo. Stunning cowgirls and a handsome cowboy make this one very easy on the eye! It has a great saloon bar and horses hooves soundtrack, which gets progressively more exciting after each game when you're winning. .

What's more, the thrills and spills continue into this title's gaming features, with a possible 178 betting lines. The slot has 4 rows and 5 reels, with some amazing bonus features and unique gameplay. So let's take a closer look and try not to get thrown off!

Wild connections in Wild Rodeo

There are two different kinds of wild in Wild Rodeo. The regular wild is the word Wild in suitably saloon style writing. When it helps you win on a payline, it spins round. If you get a big win, you'll see lots of cowboy hats being thrown in the air. During the main game it only appears on reels 1 and 5. As is usual in slots, it can substitute for all other symbols except the scatter, which is the cowboy on the horse, and of course, it can't replace the other wild.

Buffalo horn wilds in Wild Rodeo

We promised there was another wild in this game, and we never disappoint, so here it is. There are two different symbols that feature buffalo horns. At first, they look the same but if you look carefully, you'll see that one set has the pointed ends of the horns to the right, and the other set has the pointed ends to the left. The rightward pointing set only appears on reel 2. The leftward pointing set only appears on reel 4.

While each is a pair, you need a pair of each (still with us?) to kick off the free games bonus. However, get two pairs of the buffalo horns, and the Wild Connections bonus feature kicks off like a stallion. The pairs of horns have to appear on the second and fourth reels at the same time. When they do, they both turn wild - what can you expect, this is the Wild West! It gets better though. All of the symbols on the played lines between the pairs of buffalo horns also turn wild. Any line, played or unplayed that passes through both will be subject to the transformation.

Wild Rodeo free games bonus

It doesn't get much better than free slots with free spins, and there are plenty on offer here. The idea of spins suits this title because those rodeo riders must feel completely dizzy after the bucking bronco has spun them around a few times. The cowboy on horseback is the scatter in Wild Rodeo and if he appears on reels 1, 2 and 3, the free spins feature is launched.

Note that different reels come into play during the free games bonus. The credits or coins that you bet have to be the same as you were playing before the free spins. And this isn't one of those games where you can win more free spins during the free spins round.

Most slots have a set number of free spins that go with a feature, although as mentioned, you can sometimes win extra spins during the feature. In Wild Rodeo, the number of spins you get is randomly varied between 7, 9 or 11 free spins. This adds a welcome note of unpredictability. What's more, during the free spins bonus, the Wild Connections bonus will pop up more frequently. Excellent news!

Winning combos in Wild Rodeo

The wild symbol gets you 300 coins for five appearances, 100 for four, and 50 for three.

When it comes to the characters in the game, our hero and heroine, the rider and the lead cowgirl, pay the most. Five of them will net you 150, four of them get a useful 40 and three get 20.

The other three cowgirls, in the purple, green and orange outfits, all earn the same. Five of them will earn you 100, four will get you 30 and two will net you just 10.

When it comes to the playing cards, the Ace and King score the same. That's 40 for five of them, 10 for four of them and 6 for three of them. The Queen, Jack and 10 all score the same too. You'll get 30 for five of them, 6 for four of them and 3 for two of them.

Customising your wager options in Wild Rodeo

You can set both the number of lines you want to play, and the multiplier. The available lines are 25, 50, 75, 125 or 178. The available multipliers are 1, 5, 10, 25, 100, 200, 500 or 1,000. If you click on either the Lines or the Multiplier box, you'll see a popup list and you can then set these options by picking from the list. Alternatively, there are up and down arrows to the right of each option, which you can use to adjust them quickly - which is useful for users of mobile and tablet versions.

The amount displayed in the Bet box will be adjusted to reflect the options you've chosen. The minimum amount you can bet is 0.05 and the maximum bet is 350. In the middle of the dashboard is a display showing any win you've just had, and the number of credits remaining.

The Replay button will set the dashboard back to how it was on your last spin. So if you change the lines and multiplier and then change your mind - press replay and all the options will be reset to the way they were on your last spin.

Customising game options in Wild Rodeo

Also in this part of the dashboard, you can turn game sounds on or off by clicking on the loudspeaker. The question mark takes you to the help screens, where there's more information, and of course, the paytable.

Next to the Spin button is an Autoplay control. It has to be said, it's not the most sophisticated out there. Many autoplay options allow you to continue playing until you get a certain size of win, or until your credits go up or down to a level set by you. This one simply has the number of spins you want to set, with the option of 5, 10, 15, 20 or 25 auto spins. It's not clear why 25 is the top limit - many games allow you to set a hundred or more spins.

Once you've set your autospin option, the Spin button displays the number of spins that are left, and the Autoplay button changes to Stop, so that you can interrupt the Autoplay at any point. And if you do this, it has no effect on the game's outcome.

The Return to Player (RTP) in Wild Rodeo is 95%. That's round about the middle of what most slots pay back, but remember that it only has to demonstrate this payback over thousands of spins - there can be lots of spills and thrills on the way!

Wild Rodeo rules

Obviously, line wins only count if you've played that particular line, and the symbols have to be on adjacent reels, starting with the leftmost reel. The exception is the scatter which wins in any position. Only the highest winning combo on any line is paid, but the bet multiplier always applies to the line wins. Note that if you look up the winning amounts in the paytable, they haven't been pre-multiplied.

Wild West games

Wild Rodeo is just one of many free High 5 slots, and if you're loving the Wild West man versus beast theme, you could try Buffalo Rising Megaways. This six reel slot has 117,469 ways to win, an optional Buffalo Bet that gives you immediate access to the bonus free spins round, and cascading symbols. You've also got an unlimited win multiplier, which increases after every win. All this, and a mystery symbol, which can reveal random other symbols to boost your winnings. The Megaways slots can reveal up to seven symbols in view on each reel, and they're used in games under licence from Big Time Gaming.

If herds of buffalo are your thing, Aristocrat is on the trail. Its Buffalo title is one of the greatest, and most popular slots of all time. It looks fantastic, and delivers engrossing gameplay. If this is one you haven't tried, it's time you did, if only to find out what all the fuss is about. It started out as a game in land-based casinos and was then converted to the online format. That launched its worldwide player base. Everyone loves the colourful graphics and great portraits of animals such as the eagle, wolf, and cougar.

The gameplay matches the design for power and originality. The Buffalo feature delivers free games and win multipliers. And even better, the free spins can be retriggered during the feature - something all players love. Packed with other exciting gaming features, Buffalo is going to continue to build fans worldwide.

Dead or Alive is another mega popular Western slot, this time from NetEnt. We love the deadpan portrait of the sheriff that advertises the game. You're searching for a bandit, who is needless to say, wild - but the price on his head makes it well worth finding him. NetEnt has gone the whole hog to give this a Wild West flavour - the design looks like old woodwork faded by the sun, and there are barking dogs, creaks and whistles on the soundtrack. The Wanted posters are wild and the scatter is two crossed pistols - add in sticky wilds and free spins that retrigger, and it all adds up to a brilliant slot.

If it's vintage you're after, look no farther than the Lone Ranger, brought to life by Blueprint Gaming. On TV many years ago, the Lone Ranger was, and is, famous for appearing in a mask, and having a faithful Native American pal, called Tonto. You'll see the mask as part of the branding on the title screen of the slot.

Why he wore a mask is something lost in the mists of time. But this slot isn't vintage in its gameplay - it boasts no less than three bonus games, which have the potential to give you 500 times your bet. There's the Tin Can Alley feature, the Target Practice bonus and the Reward Bonus Bounty. So head on over to the free spins saloon and get spinning!

If you want to see the women get in on the action, you'd better meet the Pistoleras! They're a gunslinging set of senoritas who shoot first and ask questions later. Microgaming keeps us constantly entertained with a coach scatter that can be worth up to 15,000 coins. There are also free spins, and multipliers during the free spins rounds, along with a Pistoleras Saloon bonus. Started with the money bag scatter (there are two scatters in this game), this bonus has a pick game that involves shooting at targets. It's all terrific fun, and definitely worth a try.

There's even another rodeo slot - this time from Habanero - but the cowboys are riding bulls this time. No matter, we've still got plenty of cowgirls, lassos, ten gallon hats, spurs and cowboy boots! There’s a Ride em Cowboy bonus feature with a timer for how long the cowboy can stay on the bull!
