- Great reel expansion feature
- Win up to 24,000X your stake
- Great RTP of 96.18%
- Very volatile slot
- Nothing “new” or intuitive to be found
24K Dragon is a brand new video slot from Play’n Go that offers you the chance to win up to 24,000X your total bet. The game is built around a 5-reel, 4-row format, and there are 1024-ways-to-win. Bonuses and features include a free spins round and a re-spin mechanic, and the game has a healthy RTP of 96.18%.
When we first heard that Play’n Go’s latest slot was called 24K Dragon, we expected to see an Asian-inspited slot with lots of dragons, Oriental-inspired imagery and a soothing soundtrack. 24K Dragon is based all around mythical creatures, many of which you’d expect to see in fantasy novels and films.
As it turns out, 24K Dragon is named more fittingly around the amount of money you can actually win while playing; the maximum win is a whopping 24,000X your total bet which is far more than we’re used to seeing from Play’n Go slots.
Formatting and Betting Options
24K Dragon is built around a 5-reel, 4-row grid format, and there’s a total of 1024-ways-to-win. This means that you don’t need to worry about paylines; simply matching three or more symbols from left-to-right will form a win - kind of similar to what we’re used to seeing in Megaways slots. The game itself is based in, what looks to be a cave, and you’ll see the reels surrounded by earth and mud.
There’s a wide variety of stake/bet options, and you can spin the reels on 24K Dragon from as little as 0.20 credits per spin. The maximum bet is a whopping 100 credits too, so there’s bet options for all types of players here.
In this 24K Dragon review, we’re going to be giving you an in-depth, comprehensive look at what the game has to offer. We’ll kick things off with a look at the payouts and volatility of 24K Dragon, and we’ll follow up with a look at the bonuses and features inside the game.
Payouts and Volatility
Like most Play’n Go slots, 24K Dragon uses playing card values, including 10, jack, queen, king, and ace to represent the lower-paying symbols. These aren’t worth a huge amount of money, although thanks to the “ways-to-win” mechanic, landing enough of these at once can contribute towards some pretty decent-sized hits.
The game’s higher-paying symbols are all theme-specific, and we think it’s fair to say they look great. You’ll see a lion, a green gem, two sets of crossed swords and two dragons - one silver, and one dragon.
There’s also a treasure chest which acts as the game’s wild, although this only appears during the free-spins bonus. We’ll talk more about this wild - and other scatter symbols - later on in this review.
When it comes to volatility, 24K Dragon is on the high end of the scale. Play’n Go states that the slot is one of their most volatile creations yet - and this is immediately apparent when you look at the win-potential. As mentioned earlier, it’s possible to win up to 24,000X your total bet - and that’s a huge return for a Play’n Go slot - one that’s likely going to attract a significant number of players to playing the slot. We should also point out the RTP as this point; 24K Dragon ships with a factory RTP of 96.18%, an RTP that’s in-line with what we’ve come to expect from Play’n Go slots.
24K Dragon Bonus Features
24K Dragon offers two bonuses and features, both of which we’ll discuss in this part of our review. While neither feature is overly intuitive or creative (we’ve seen both of the mechanics in the past), we like the fact that Play’n Go has put somewhat of a new spin on them. Let’s take a look at how they work below.
During the base-game, landing one of the Golden Dragon symbols anywhere in view triggers the slot’s re-spin feature. For this re-spin, between one and four additional rows are added to the grid, and this massively increases the number of ways-to-win. Each of these tows contains up to three additional symbols, and they sit directly above the middle three rows. You are then awarded one free re-spin, with the extra rows and the extra ways-to-win ‘locked’ in place for that re-spin. Once the re-spin has been played out the game grid returns to its normal size and the next spin begins.
If you manage to land 3, 4, or 5 of the scatter symbols anywhere in view you’ll trigger the main free spins bonus. You will then be awarded 8, 15 or 20 free-spins respectively. Like the base-game, the free spins round starts - initially - on a 5-reel, 3-row grid. However, the Golden Dragon symbols play a slightly different role than during the base-game, and when they land in view they don’t award a re-spin; instead, they’re collected, and you’ll see these added to the metre on the left-hand-side of the screen.
Once you’ve collected a certain number of these Golden Dragon symbols, additional rows and ways-to-win are added to the game, and these then lock in play for the duration of the feature. Below, you can see how many dragons you need to collect in order to open up the game grid:
- 3 Golden Dragons: unlocks 1 row, with the number of ways increased to 2,000
- 7 Golden Dragons: unlocks 2 rows, with the number of ways increased to 3,456
- 11 Golden Dragons: unlocks 3 rows, with the number of ways increased to 5,488
- 15 Golden Dragons: unlocks 4 rows, with the number of ways increased to 8,192
There’s also an extra symbol added onto the reels during the free spins bonus, and this is a treasure chest. These are wild symbols, and they have a multiplier value attached to them; 2X or 4X. When these form part of a win, the multiplier that’s attached to the wild is applied to the win - and things get very interesting here, as the wilds multiply against one another.
24K Dragon Review
24K Dragon is what we’d expect to see if Game of Thrones met Dragon Maiden - we really like how the slot features an expanding reels mechanic - and not only does this add significant win-potential during the bonus, but it also makes gameplay far more exciting - it’s similar to what we see Play’n Go do in Testament. In fact, we’d go as far as saying 24K Dragon is all about the reel expansions - it’s certainly where the majority of the big win-potential comes from!
While the slot’s gameplay doesn’t offer anything overly intuitive or dramatic, we do like how the game feels like a fresh take on some mechanics we’ve seen in the past, and the massive increase in win-potential - found within 24K Dragon - means we’re likely going to see a significant number of players trying the slot out for themselves.
On the whole, 24K Dragon is a decent effort from Play’n Go, and some great-looking visuals, the big win-potential on offer combined with a gripping soundtrack make for exciting gameplay. Remember, you can try out 24K Dragon for free here at Slots Temple!

24K Dragon FAQs
What’s the RTP of 24K Dragon?
Like all Play’n Go slots, 24K Dragon comes in a number of different RTP settings. This means, in essence, that online casinos (operators) can ask the software provider to provide the slot at a lower, or higher percentage. However, that being said, 24K Dragon comes with a factory RTP of 96.2%, which is, by industry standards, fairly decent. Just be sure to double check the specific RTP at the online casino you’re playing at to ensure you’re getting the best RTP version available!
How much can I win playing 24K Dragon?
24K Dragon offers a really high maximum win - and for a Play’n Go game, it’s one of the highest! According to the official game sheet from Play’n Go 24K Dragon can dish out wins of up to 24,000X! That’s far higher than most of the software provider’s slots, and it’s likely a calculated move to help the game developer catch up with other mainstream developers who’re pushing out games with win-potential in excess of 20,000X!
Does 24K Dragon have a free-spins bonus?
Yes - and it’s the free-spins bonus in 24K Dragon that makes the game so appealing to players. Why? Because, during the free-spins bonus, you can be awarded unlimited free spins, and the ways-to-win can also increase, up to a maximum of 8,192! What’s more, there’s also wild multipliers in play that combine with one another, multiplying wins by up to 64X!
How do the multiplier wilds work?
On the reels you’ll notice that there are treasure chests during the free-spins bonus. These treasure chests act as wilds, and have a 2X or 4X multiplier attached to them. When multiple treasure chests land, the multipliers combine - up to a maximum of 64X!
Does 24K Dragon have a progressive jackpot?
No - a progressive jackpot is pretty much the only thing 24K Dragon is missing! That being said, with players enjoying the chance of winning up to 24,000X their stake, it’s not a huge blow - and while it’s always nice to see progressive jackpots, Play’n Go has done an excellent job with 24K Dragon.
