Introduction 

Book of Souls II: El Dorado is the second in the Book of Souls series from Spearhead. Expect the unexpected as you explore the ancient mysteries of the South Americas as symbols randomly disappear causing a cascade spin or magically upgrade to a higher paying symbol. The book symbol doubles as a paying scatter and a wild and will grant free spins that can be retriggered during the bonus game. 

Theme, Graphics & Soundtrack 

While the Mayan and Aztec theme is a common one, Spearhead have created an exceptional slot visually with some great artwork and animations. The reels stand in front of the ancient temple, which is flanked by burning torches and half hidden in the rainforest. Above the reels you can see the pyramid bathed in the glare of the setting sun, despite the soft raindrops that fall in the foreground. Tribal drums and flutes play in the background. The symbols themselves include the book scatter/wild, the female explorer Lara Jones, an evil priest, a gold offering and a Mayan calendar. Lower tier symbols are from ace to 10.

Book of Souls II Bonus Features 

El Dorado Fortune Wheel

Once any spin has completed in the base game, the Fortune Wheel can be <b>activated on a random basis</b>. All instances of a specific lower tier symbol can be exchanged for a higher tier symbol selected by the fortune wheel that appears above the reels. This can trigger new wins, but does not guarantee a win. If the higher tier symbol selected is the scatter/wild, then free spins will be triggered.

El Dorado Cascade Spins

During the base game, after a winning spin, the winning symbols can randomly disappear, causing the symbols above them to crash down into place. This can trigger, but not guarantee, another win. The random cascade feature can also <b>nudge down more scatter/wilds,</b> triggering free spins.

Free Spins

If 3 or more Book scatter/wilds land, you'll be granted 10 free spins. Before the bonus round starts, any paying symbol except the wild/scatter can be selected as the special character for the free spins feature. If 2 or more special characters land (if the special character is a higher tier symbol) or if 3 or more land (if the special character is a lower tier symbol) then those symbols will expand to fill the whole reel and will pay out as scatters. If the scatter/wild appears 3 or more times during the free spins round,<b>6 more free spins</b> will be added and a second special character will be added. <b>Up to 3 special characters</b> can be added during the bonus round.

Book of Souls II: El Dorado Review

A sleeker, more polished version of its predecessor, Book of Souls II: El Dorado bears some of the same symbols and features as the original, but now includes two base game features instead of one, and up to 3 expanding special characters during the free spins bonus. During our test run we were lucky enough to land a free spins bonus with a re-trigger, meaning we had 6 free spins with 2 special characters. While the win was impressive, no big wins are guaranteed in any of the features in this slot. Spearhead aren't finished with the Book of Souls series yet; Book of Souls Remastered is planned for release in late 2021.
