The Eastern European country of Serbia may not be the first location you associate with game development, but there is actually a great deal of creative activity being put into casino games there. Theme, graphics and soundtrack

In all honesty, what greets you when you load Geldsack is a fairly dispiriting sight. There is no backdrop of any kind, just a blank brown wall. The grid could not be simpler. The controls are big and bold but extremely limited. The symbols are quite crudely drawn. The plain reels spin without any fanfare. Wins are met with the sound of a cash register or a xylophone scale and modest animation. There is no musical soundtrack, but what you do get is an extremely annoying electronic jingle that repeats unchanged for every spin. You will be reaching for the mute button. If you make it to the free spins there is the relief of different music - but is the ‘can-can’ tune really the best Altea could do? Is there any thematic consistency?

There’s nothing wrong with simplicity if it’s done with a certain amount of thought, but here it just seems a little under-developed and maybe slightly lazy. Also, the decision to keep a vertical pay table constantly on view makes the screen unnecessarily cluttered. Not a particularly pleasant visual or aural experience.

How to play Geldsack

1. Click the Spin button to start playing.
2. Select the Bet amount from 0.2 to 5 using the - and + buttons.
3. Use the arrows to select auto spins from 1 to 24. 
4. Press Stop Auto-play to exit auto-play mode at any time. .
5. The balance meter above the Quit button on the left displays your current balance which will be constantly updated.
6. If you land a full grid of Cherries, Plums, Triple Bars or Lucky 7 your win is double.
7. All wins are counted from left to right.

Geldsack bonus features

Gamble Feature

The gamble feature gives players the opportunity to double each win. Once the gamble feature has been activated the player has to choose between red and black suits as the mystery card spins.

After the player has chosen a symbol the gamble feature reveals the winning symbol. The player may end the gamble feature at the end of each round. If the player should lose in the gamble feature then the win value indicated in the current win counter will be lost and the player is returned to the base game. 

Fairy bonus

This feature is common to all Altea Gaming slots, can be won during game play and offers good pay-outs. The bonus amount is displayed in the FB display box to the top right of the screen.

Geldsack review: our verdict

Of the many slots which are modelled on the fruit machines that were everywhere in casinos and amusement arcades in the days before online gaming, Geldsack is not a great example. The top pay-outs are good but most of them are quite small. There is a distinct lack of extras, and while that isn’t necessarily a negative in a well-designed and constructed game of this kind, here you really do feel the lack.

Looking beyond the gameplay itself, one does wonder why there are so few other options. There is no turbo play option and the highest number of auto spins is 24. There is no settings menu to choose any kind of win or lose limits. The space bar cannot be enabled. You are not even able to stop the spins when you want to.

Positives? Well, at least it has a gamble feature, but that isn’t enough to recommend it above any of the competition.
