Introduction

Animal-themed slots can offer the perfect escape from reality as you spin the reels. The potential for fun is greatly enhanced when you add some cartoon-style fun into the mix, as you will already know if you have previously sampled the delights of The Great Chicken Escape slot! This is a game packed to bursting with features and modifiers; however, for those of you who are looking for something altogether simpler, Gets the Worm could be your new favourite game!

Theme, graphics & soundtrack

Anyone who has already sampled an Eyecon online slots game will have a pretty good idea of what to expect when Gets the Worm launches. The designers like to have plenty of fun with their game themes, so they have created a couple of fun characters for this slot. The low-value symbols are represented by colourful applique playing card motifs, with collage-style flowers, watering cans and birdboxes joining them on the reels.

The early bird is the game’s wild, spinning around whenever it contributes to a winning combination. It looks bright and happy, unlike the rather worried-looking worm that represents the game’s scatter symbol. It is no wonder the worm is alarmed; after all, the early bird is almost certain to catch it - at least according to the proverb!

Gets the Worm RTP and variance

If there is one thing that lets this game down a little in our eyes, it is the rather disappointing RTP of 95.18 per cent; however, this wouldn’t deter us from playing at an online casino. This is a low-volatility game, so wins should come in thick and fast but won’t always amount to very much.

How to play Gets the Worm

Playing Gets the Worm is fairly easy; however, if you are not familiar with slots game controls, we are here to guide you through the startup process:

  1. Decide how much you are prepared to wager, then divide this amount to give you around 100 spins. This should give you a good gaming session, although we can’t promise you a winning streak!
  2. Tap the purple box labelled ‘lines and bet’. You will be presented with two sliders that you can adjust to set the number of active paylines and the amount of money you will spend on each. Your total bet is shown at the top of the screen.
  3. Tap spin to play one game at your selected bet.
  4. Tap auto to activate autoplay, then select your preferred number of automatic spins - either 10, 20, 50 or 100. The autoplay button shows the number of spins remaining, whilst tapping the spin button will cancel the feature.
  5. View the paytable and mute the game sounds from the menu at the top of the screen.

Bet sizes & paytable wins

Payline costs in Gets the Worm start from just 0.01 each. We recommend activating all 25 paylines for the best chances of landing plenty of cash prizes, which gives you wagering options ranging from 0.25 to 12.50 per spin. This is certainly not going to attract the attention of any high rollers, but there is the chance to land cash prizes for everyone else.

Match three, four or five symbols across an active payline to win a cash prize - at least if you are playing for real cash! In the case of the nine and the scatter, just two matches from left to right will award a payout. Amounts are calculated against your payline stake as follows:

- Nine = 2x, 5x, 15x, 100x
- Ten = 5x, 15x, 100x
- Jack = 10x, 25x, 150x
- Queen = 10x, 25x, 150x
- King = 10x, 40x, 200x
- Ace = 15x, 50x, 250x
- Flower = 15x, 50x, 250x
- Watering can = 25x, 100x, 500x
- Birdhouse = 25x, 100x, 500x
- Bird = 100x, 1,000x, 5,000x

The scatter pays 2x, 5x, 20x or 50x your total stake for landing two, three, four or five of a kind.

Gets the Worm bonus features & free spins

- Free spins

Although there is a wild substitution symbol in the shape of the early bird, this game is very much about the free spins round. Land three worm scatters to activate seven free spins in a feature that can be retriggered up to 15 times in succession. Throughout your free spins, all wilds can also substitute for scatters - something they can’t do during base gameplay.

- Gamble

Some casino operators activate the optional gamble feature, which allows you to potentially double your wins up to five times. There is a 50/50 chance of losing your win, so this is strictly for the risk-takers!

Gets the Worm review: our verdict

Gets the Worm represents the simpler side of slots gaming and is the perfect entry game for newcomers to the genre. It is also suitable for anyone with an aversion to risky gameplay, as even a modest budget should give you a decent session at the reels.

We retriggered the free spins bonus four times in succession during our trial session - if we had been playing with real cash, we would have scooped a big cash payout. Admittedly, not everyone can be so lucky, so make sure you explore this game very thoroughly in demo mode before risking your own cash.
