Introduction

Northern Lights Studios is a Swedish company that also has an office in Manchester. There is currently a relatively small number of Northern Lights free online slots in circulation, but the company is adding to that number all the time, with games being made available as both paid-for and free play slots. In God of Fire, they have taken quite an original approach to the popular Greek mythology theme, which we already know well from games like 1x2’s Gods of Olympus slot.

God of Fire has a 5-reel, 3-column grid with 243 possible winning combinations. The minimum bet size is 0.10 and the maximum is 100. There are 8 regular symbols: Hephaestus, a Helmet, a Pillar and an Urn, plus the four highest playing cards. There is a gold wild and a blue wild. Other special symbols are the bonus, which is a pile of coins surrounded by laurel wreaths; a gain life symbol, which is a heart; and a lose life symbol, which is a skull and crossbones.

Theme, graphics and soundtrack

The depiction of Hephaestus’s forge with red hot coals, drifting embers and bursts of flame is quite impressive, and the graphics and animation of the reels don’t let it down. There’s an eerie half-human, half-instrumental soundtrack, some very dramatic sound effects and lots of fire bolts. It’s fairly limited, but what there is works well.

How to play God of Fire

  1. Click on the button that carries the dollar sign to select your bet from the options presented.
  2. Click on the small spin button to access the Autoplay menu. Here you can choose a number of automatic spins from 25 to 100. You can also set the autoplay mode to end if you reach a specified loss level and a single win limit. The autoplay mode is set to cancel whenever you win a bonus feature.
  3. You can also adjust the bet level in the Autoplay menu.
  4. If you open the three-line menu and click on the cog, you can select quick play mode. These higher spin speeds can also be selected by clicking on the lightning bolt. This menu also gives you game information, including the paytable.
  5. Click the Spin button to start playing at the current bet value.
  6. The wild symbol will substitute for all symbols except the bonus, gain life and lose life symbols.
  7. If you land the blue wild in the base game, you will trigger the exploding wild bonus. Each blue wild explodes to reveal single, double, and quadruple wilds or additional blue wilds. Each blue wild will continue to explode until no blue wild remains. The bonus is awarded in free spins and super free spins.
  8. The ultraways feature means wins are made when matching symbols of any size land adjacently from left to right beginning at the far left. Only the highest win is paid per win way.
  9. We encourage everyone to play responsibly. If you are playing for real money, please be sure always to keep within the limits of what you can afford to lose. Games are for fun, so when you stop enjoying it, you should quit.

God of Fire review: our verdict

This isn’t a very ambitious game and the bonus features are not quite as interesting as they sound, but for a high-volatility game, it keeps delivering events and the potential payout is very good. It's worth a look.
