Introduction
NextGen is an Australian company that has been around since 1999. As it is one of the giants of the industry, Next Gen Gaming slots have a solid reputation. Manic Millions reimagines the classic mad scientist’s lab; in doing so, it leans fairly heavily on games such as Caleta’s Crazy Lab slot. It incorporates many familiar features, including a free spins bonus.
Manic Millions has five reels, three rows and 25 paylines. The minimum coin size is 0.01 and the maximum is 25.00, meaning the minimum bet size is 0.25 and the maximum is 250. There are 10 regular symbols: Igor the hunchbacked assistant, a giant Venus flytrap, an evil mouse, three green goggle-wearing blobs, two three-necked flasks, two conical flasks, and two round flasks. The wild is the mad scientist.
Theme, graphics and soundtrack
The first impression is that NextGen is definitely playing this for laughs and in this sense has pitched it about right. Instead of a gloomy and dungeon-like castle laboratory, Manic Millions has been set in a fairly bright and tidy modern lab that is more Despicable Me than Victor Frankenstein. Our characters are pretty whacky, along the lines of Pixar creations, with a long-legged beanpole of a professor in checked trousers, a Pringle sweater and a massive grey beard plus a grey-faced and slightly monstrous assistant whom we simply have to call Igor.
The symbols are suspended on invisible reels on a semi-opaque background through which we get a good view of the lab and a grand staircase sweeping up into the distance.
The two main characters watch in still silence until the moment comes for Igor to throw the switch and electrify the grid. As you progress, you will get a celebratory wave from the professor and a bizarre shambling dance from the hunchback.
The soundtrack is a jaunty electronic piece with echoes of the theme from The Addams Family, which is nicely in keeping with the look and tone of the visuals.
Manic Millions RTP and variance
Manic Millions has an RTP of 96.42 per cent and low variance.
How to play Manic Millions
- Click the play button to set the reels spinning using the current total bet value. The play button disappears during the spins, so you can’t stop the reels.
- Select ‘settings’ and ‘coins’ to adjust the bet level.
- The autospin function allows you to select spins by using a slider in the settings menu. This goes up in increments of 5 from 5 to 100.
- The balance is displayed to the top left of the screen.
- Payline wins and scatter wins are multiplied by the bet.
- Scatter wins are added to payline wins.
- Only the highest win on each payline pays out, and wins on different paylines are added.
- Always play gambling games responsibly. If playing for real money, make sure you stay within the limits of what you can afford to lose. When the game stops being fun, you should quit.
Bet sizes and paytable wins
The bet size ranges from 0.25 to 250.

Manic Millions review: our verdict
The paytable is fairly low and the lack of a multiplier in the free spins round is a little disappointing. All the basic special features are here but it is a shame that NextGen chose not to take advantage of the rich setting and give us a bonus game somewhere else in the castle. Still, it is visually very appealing and a solid gaming experience without breaking any new ground.
