Peak Power slot review
Pragmatic Play decided it wanted to give the old five-reel format an energy boost when it designed Peak Power, and it worked. This game is about much more than its ten paylines, with some incredible multipliers available even before you trigger the increased possibilities of the free spins. Our Peak Power slot review will go into more detail but it is fair to say that not many slots can compete with the thrilling gameplay.
Alternative forms of energy
One of the great questions of the modern world is how we continue to power our homes and machines in the face of climate change and limited supplies of oil. This question has now come to slots games in the form of Peak Power. A highly industrial and mechanical set of reels sits in front of a background that flashes with lightning, with almost every form of energy you can imagine represented amongst the symbols.
Powering the reels
Wind. fire. Water, nuclear: each is represented in the Peak Power slot, along with a glowing ball of cosmic energy that represents the scatter symbol. This makes for a highly original video slot theme that crackles with life, from the lightning bolts that rocket across lines of winning symbols to the equally energetic music that pounds along with the gameplay.
Peak Power RTP and variance
Not all slots are simple when it comes to RTP. Some have variable figures because casinos choose to change the average; others because the triggering of certain features can change the probabilities. The best figure for the Peak Power slot and the one we found in our demo play version of the base game is 96.02 per cent; however, super free spins can lower it to 95.98 per cent and other casinos may set it even lower.
Another reason to be cautious is the high variance. Slots with high variance are high risk: you don’t win as frequently, but they offset this by making the rarer wins potentially much bigger. The Temple Tumble slot is another good example. This is the time we love demo mode the most.
How to play Peak Power
Time to power up:
- Almost every Pragmatic Play free play slot follows the same basic format, starting with the menu and info buttons on the left.
- In the menu, you will find the game history, a bet adjustor, quick spin, a battery saver, ambient music, and sound FX. In the info, you will find the paytable with the payout potential for every symbol.
- That bottom left-hand corner has another mute button, although it doesn’t separate sound and music.
- To adjust your bet, use the plus and minus symbols framing the spin button.
- Hitting the spin button turns the reels once; alternatively, hit the autoplay tab and set up to 1,000 automatic spins but no limits. You can activate turbo mode, quick spin or full screen.
- Stick to your limits, stay in control, and have fun. Use the timeout and self-exclusion functions responsibly.
How to win at Peak Power
Winning at slots always sounds so simple on paper, as all you need to do is match symbols across a payline. The Peak Power slot has ten paylines across its five reels, so winning symbols are those that follow one of these lines. Of course, this is without triggering the Peak Power bonus features, which bring a whole new dimension to the slot.
Top symbols
There are seven paying symbols, plus a scatter symbol that pays 3x your bet. The lowest paying are the bar, double bar and triple bar. Then there are the four energy symbols, of which the most powerful is nuclear. The nuclear and fire symbols both pay from two matches. The maximum combination is five, for which the win multiplier for the nuclear sign is 10x your bet.
The overall max win is 10,000x your bet.
Bet range
Opening the bet window gives you three figures to adjust:
- Coins per line: 1 to 10.00
- Coin value: 0.01 to 1.00
- Total bet: 0.10 to 100.00
Peak Power bonuses
If you want to increase your total win, finding a win multiplier is a good way to do it. They can show up randomly on any spin, but they are higher during the free spins bonus round.
Free spins
You can use two methods to trigger free spins: either find the scatter symbol at least three times or use the ‘buy free spins’ button, which will also guarantee you a multiplier on each payline:
- 3 scatters = 10 free spins.
- 4 scatters = 12 free spins.
- 5 scatters = 14 free spins.
Buy free spins = 5x minimum multiplier for 100x total bet.
Buy super free spins = 100x minimum multiplier for 300x total bet.
If you reach the 10,000x max win, the free spins will automatically end.
Random multipliers
In the base game, the random multiplier can be 2x, 5x, 10x, 100x, 200x, 300x, 400x or 500x. It could attach to any payline and apply to any win across that line. In the free spins, random multipliers start at 10x and go as high as 1,000x.
Peak Power review: our verdict
Take an original theme, smooth and exciting gameplay, and add multipliers - and then more multipliers. Then trigger the free spins round, which comes with even more multipliers. This seems to be the premise behind the Peak Power slot and it is certainly an idea we can get behind. There is a lot of fun to be had here regardless but the winning potential certainly helps.
