- Win up to 15,000X your stake
- Slightly better graphics than the original
- Disappointing lack of bonuses
- No free spins feature like the original
- Highly volatile slot
Pirate Gold Deluxe is a new video slot from Pragmatic Play that’s an “upgraded” version of their popular Pirate Gold slot. Pirate Gold Deluxe can be played from between 0.20 and 100 credits per spin, and players can play from both desktop and mobile devices. The RTP of the slot is 96.48% and bonuses and features include a Money Bag re-spin feature.
Pirate Gold Deluxe is a new video slot from Pragmatic Play - and it’s a sequel to their fairly successful slot, Pirate Gold. Unfortunately, the game developer appears to have missed the mark quite a lot when it comes to Pirate Gold Deluxe. Usually, when a software provider releases a deluxe version of a game it comes packed with new bonuses and features, enhanced graphics - and even better pays or progressive jackpots. That simply isn’t the case with Pirate Gold Deluxe, and you’ll see from the rest of this review that we’re not overly impressed.
Pirate Gold Deluxe is built around a 5-reel, 4-row format, and there are a total of 40 fixed paylines in play here. The visuals look good, and there are some decent animations and sound effects - but when compared against the original there’s nothing particularly distinct, and you’d be hard-pressed to even notice any differences. To be honest, you likely won’t even notice any graphical differences unless you’re playing on a device that supports ultra-HD.
RTP and Volatility
Pragmatic Play hasn't changed much when it comes to volatility, as Pirate Gold Deluxe ranks as 5/5 on the provider’s volatility scale. Unfortunately, along with the size of the maximum bet decreasing when compared to the original Pirate Gold slot, the RTP has also taken a slight hit, dropping down to 96.48%. This does leave us wondering why anyone would actually choose to play Pirate Gold Deluxe - and you’ll see from the rest of this review that we do feel like Pragmatic Play have let themselves down with this one.
Pirate Gold Deluxe’s Symbols And Payouts
Usually, when a game developer releases a deluxe version of an old slot, they give the graphics a bit of a shake up. We see this time and time again with Merkur (think Magic Mirror versus Magic Mirror Deluxe), and even Novomatic. Why Pragmatic Play chose to call this new game deluxe has, once again, baffled us - as the symbols all look almost identical, aside from the fact they look a tiny bit crisper.
Pirate Gold Deluxe’s lower-paying symbols include Bronze, Silver and Gold doubloons - and you’ll also find a hook. All of these require a 3-of-a-kind or higher combo in order to form a win.
The next lot of symbols, however - the medium and higher-paying symbols - only require you to form a 2-of-a-kind combo to secure a win. These symbols include a telescope, a map, a ship, a parrot, a Lady Pirate and a Male Pirate. These pay significantly better than the lower-paying symbols, awarding payouts worth between 10X and 25X for lining up 5-of-a-kind combos.
On reels two through five you’ll also notice there are treasure chest symbols, all overflowing with treasure. This is the game’s wild symbol, and it substitutes for all other symbols in the game aside from the Money Bag scatter symbols. We should point out that the wild symbol does not have its own paytable.
Pirate Gold Deluxe Bonus Features
Unfortunately, when it comes to bonuses and features, Pirate Gold Deluxe is pretty lacking we feel - and while we’ll do our best to be impartial below, we warned that we’re not impressed with the offering Pragmatic Play has put on offer here. Let’s take a look at what bonuses you’ll find in Pirate Gold Deluxe.
Lucky Treasure Bag Feature
As you’ve probably gathered by now, Pragmatic Play has chosen to remove the free spins feature that was found in the original Pirate Gold slot - and this means there’s just one bonus round remaining, the Lucky Treasure Bag bonus.
In order to trigger the feature you’ll need to land eight of the Money Bag symbols anywhere in view during the base-game. You’ll also notice that each of these Money Bag symbols (even during the base-game) contains a monetary value. These are important, and come into play during the bonus round itself.
Once activated, you’ll be taken to a new set of reels where the only symbols in view are blank spaces, chests, or money bags. You are initially given three re-spins, and each time you land one of the money bags or chests in view, this re-spin counter is reset to 3. Below, let’s take a look at what the different types of money bag symbols and chests do:
- Purple Treasure Bags: when these land, they lock in position and take all the values of the money bag symbols that triggered the bonus round in the first place.
- Red Treasure Bags: like the purple treasure bags, the red treasure bags also lock in place; however, instead of just taking the values of the triggering bags, they take the value of all bags on screen.
- Green Treasure Bags: when a green treasure bag symbol lands in view it will add a value of 2X, 3X, or 5X to the total multiplier of the round. The green treasure bags also don’t stick in place, although they do reset the number of re-spins you have remaining.
- Chest Symbols: When you land one of the chest symbols in view you’ll re-trigger another entire Lucky Treasure Bag feature once the current one has begun.
The feature ends when you run out of re-spins, or when you fill up the entire grid with bag or chest symbols. If you do manage to fill all 20 positions on the grid, you’ll win the Grand Jackpot - and this is worth a tasty 1,000X your total stake.
The only other really new addition to Pirate Gold Deluxe is the fact that you can purchase direct entry to the Lucky Treasure Bag feature. In order to do this, you’ll need to pay a cost of 100X your stake; doing so will ensure that on the next spin between 8 and 19 Money Bag symbols will land in view, awarding entry to the bonus round. Note: This option is only available to players outside of the UK due to new regulations from the UK’s Gambling Commission.

Pirate Gold Deluxe Slo FAQs
Who made Pirate Gold Deluxe?
Pirate Gold Deluxe is made by a game developer called Pragmatic Play. They’ve done incredibly well over the past years, breaking through from a fairly shady past (they were even involved with DDOS attacks against competitors) to becoming a mainstream software provider in the iGaming industry. Today, they’re a pioneer, and even have a license from Big Time Gaming to use their Megaways game mechanic.
What’s the RTP of Pirate Gold Deluxe?
Pirate Gold Deluxe has an RTP of 96.48%, which is fairly decent for a slot today. We should also point out that the volatility of Pirate Gold Deluxe is very high - so you can expect fewer wins but bigger ones when they do come.
What’s the maximum win in Pirate Gold Deluxe?
Like most game developers, Pragmatic Play like to show off the potential within their games, and Pirate Gold Deluxe is no exception. You’ll see it plastered all over promotional material that the maximum win is a whopping 15,000X - although in reality it’s unlikely anyone will ever get close to this amount. Still, it’s nice to know the win-potential is there - even if it’s just hypothetical at this point.
How does the Lucky Treasure Bag feature work?
The Lucky Treasure Bag feature is triggered by landing 8 or more of the Gold Money Bag symbols anywhere in view during the base-game. Doing so awards you with unlimited re-spins, while the Money Bag symbols are the only ones to appear on the reels. Once your re-spins are up, the value of all the Money Bag Symbols on screen are added up, and that’s your total win - it’s simple!
Is there a free-spins bonus in Pirate Gold Deluxe?
No. Unfortunately, Pragmatic Play decided to remove the free-spins bonus in Pirate Gold Deluxe. This came as quite a big surprise - as, usually, “deluxe” versions of existing games are usually better - and packed with more bonuses and features. Unfortunately, this just isn’t the case here, and in all honesty we find it a bit disappointing with what Pragmatic Play have opted to do here.
