Theme, Graphics & Soundtrack

With their googly eyes and adorable expressions, the cartoonish bird symbols are beautifully animated in this slot and some of the sound effects they produce on a win are hilarious. The owl strikes a mysterious pose to match its mystery payout role while the vulture looks positively deranged. Other recognisable species include chickens a duck, and a large, bright yellow peacock, which serves as the bonus scatter. The wild symbol is a nest of chicks which will hold up a mask to match the symbols they're matching for a win. The background soundtrack is simple and becomes repetitive after a while but overall the sound effects and visuals are fun and will make you smile.

How to Play Slot Birds

1. When the game has loaded, it will ask you to choose whether you want sound. Once you've made your choice it will take you to the reels.
2. Touch the bet amount to adjust your bet per spin. 
3. Familiarise yourself with the game, its rules and paytable by touching the menu button and then the ? tab.
4. Sound and autostart settings can also be accessed via the menu button.
5. To use autostart, toggle the autostart slider to 'on'. There are no loss limit options on this game. Spins will continue until you touch the autostart button below the reels. If you do use this function, keep a close eye on your balance and be ready to stop the spins before you need to.

Bet Sizes & Paytable Wins 

Bets range between 0.20 to 60.00 coins per spin. The symbol with the highest fixed payout is the wild, with 150x your total bet for five of a kind, although the mystery symbol can pay up to 192x your bet for 5 of a kind. The lowest payout is the vulture and the green bird with 1x your bet for three of a kind. 

Slot Birds Features

Progressive Multiplier

The multiplier starts at x1 for the first win on the spin. Winning symbols disappear, causing a cascade on the reels. If the cascade results in a second win, it will be multiplied by x2 and result in a second cascade. If that lands in a third win, it will be multiplied x3, and so on.

Mystery symbol

Three or more mystery symbols result in additional wins. Payout rates are random, but within ranges between 8x and 192x your bet.

Gamble

During the base game only, you can gamble at the end of a winning spin. Gamble is a 50/50 choice of a red or black playing card. A win doubles your winnings, with a chance to double up again. The maximum number of winning gambles is 5. A losing gamble loses all gambled winnings. You can elect to take 1/2 your winnings before gambling.

Flying Wilds

After a non-winning spin, birds in the wild positions on the reels may occasionally fly to a different position and replace other symbols, for a second chance of a win. 

Flying Vultures

After a non-winning spin, any vultures on the reels may occasionally fly off, causing a cascade and another chance for a win.

Free Spins

Three or more bonus scatters triggers the free spins game, triggering between 10 and 30 free spins. The same rules and features apply during the free spins as in the base game, except that there is no opportunity to gamble. Free spins can be retriggered during the bonus round.

Slot Birds Review

Slot Birds is an entertaining slot both visually and through its great range of features. While the variance wasn't published at the time of review, our test run turned up frequent low payouts with multipliers progressing to as much as 4x on one spin. We weren't able to trigger a free spins bonus, but the various features including the gamble, flying vultures and flying wilds kept the base game interesting. The paytable payouts aren't particularly high, unlike Thunderkick's Birds on a Wire slot, which has many of the same features, but with a high volatility and a top payout of 9000x. 

Compared with other developers, Apollo Games doesn't have a huge portfolio of online slots but it's worth keeping an eye on our Apollo Games demo slots page for new releases in the future.
