A classy free slots game based around music is what you get with Better Sound, developed by Espresso Games.

Theme

An electric blue background decorated with musical staves sets off the five reels in this 18-payline game nicely. The symbols include classic cards in blue, while quavers, crotchets and minims give a splash of colour in pink, yellow green and red.

The title is in a vibrant, shiny red, using a musical sharp symbol for the two Ts, which is a nice touch and adds to the musical theme. You could be in a moody jazz club or nightclub, although the music is somewhat more soothing and reminiscent of Tubular Bells, only broken up by the odd tinkling sound or drum beats kicking in when you spin a win.

While it may not immediately look like the most thrilling slot, Better Sound has a Multiplier Crescendo, illustrated by a treble clef and musical notes climbing up the staves. It also has a Bonus reel, with the Better Sound CD and Gold Discs pouring out a burst of notes when you hit a win.

How to Play

There's nothing unusual on the game screen here, with the Spin button in a central position, the Win button just above it, the Max Bet button to the left of it and an Auto button to the right. Players can change the number of coins player per spin, which is set at a default, and they can also choose the value of the coins played using the Coin Value display arrow.

The pink minim is the highest-paying symbol, paying out 1000 for five, 150 for four and 20 for three. This is followed by the yellow crotchet, giving 700 for five, 100 for four and 15 for three. The Wild symbol, which is simply the word ‘Wild’ written in silvery grey, can appear anywhere except the reel on the left and completes winning combos for a lot of the note symbols.

The Multiplier Crescendo is unlocked through any winning payline combination and also activates the x2 multiplier on the following spin which doubles all wins. All consecutive wins activate another multiplier on the next spin, and there is a chance of a multiplier of 8x. The Multiplier Crescendo stops when you spin and there is no payline win.

Each of the five reels in Better Sound has its own jackpot. When you get the Better Sounds CD symbol, a percentage of the bets placed is added to the jackpot balance, which has an increment of 4.28% of all bets placed. The Gold disc turns the reel it appears on into a Bonus Reel which contains more winning symbols. The more coins you play, the more winning symbols appear on this reel.
