Introduction

The Australian company Ainsworth Game Technology was founded in 1995, originally manufacturing slot machines. Ainsworth free slots are now well established at online casinos all over the world. These free slots range from extravagantly themed titles to ones with very simple gameplay, such as the Golden Horns slot. Ainsworth aims for excellent graphics but is not always successful.

Cash Voyage has a five-reel, three-column grid with 100 paylines; however, you have the option to play with 50. The minimum bet size is 0.50 and the maximum is 40. There are nine regular symbols: Saturn, space shuttle, space station, meteor shower, and the five highest-value playing cards. There are also substitute wilds in three sizes, which are images of an astronaut; three multiplier scatters; and a money up symbol consisting of rockets.

Theme, graphics and soundtrack

There is something mildly comic about the look and sound of this game. The background of distant planets and asteroid belts is all very serious and proper, with a nice choice of blues and purples, and the soundtrack is simple but atmospheric; however, when the astronaut wild appears, he looks like he is stuck in some kind of baby bouncer as he lurches backwards and forwards on the reel. When you land a win, there is a sudden blast of distinctly circus-like music, giving the whole thing a bit of a split personality.

How to play Cash Voyage

1. There are 100 paylines but you can choose to play with 100 or 50 lines by using the arrows in the control panel.
2. You can adjust the bet using the arrows to the top right of the control panel; alternatively, you can click the max bet button to go straight to the highest permissible bet level. The total bet figure is the bet multiplied by the number of lines.
3. Adjusting the bet and the number of lines will alter the ladder lists of the potential bonus payouts.
4. Click the autoplay button, which is to the left of the spin button, to call up the autoplay menu. This is where you can choose a number of automatic spins from 5 to 25. The number of spins remaining will be shown on the autoplay stop button. Press this button again to exit autoplay.
5. The balance counter to the bottom left displays your current balance, which is updated after each spin. Winnings are displayed to the right of the balance.
6. Click the spin button or press the spacebar to start playing. You can stop the reels by pressing the spin button again.
7. The two rocket money up symbols appear during the money up feature only.
8. Scatters pay in any position.
9. Wild substitutes for all symbols except scatters.
10. The money up rocket symbols appear only during the money up feature.
11. All wins count from the leftmost reel, paying from left to right on adjacent reels, except scatters, bonuses and ladder prizes. Only the highest award is paid in each combination of scatters. Only the highest win is paid on each line except in the case of scatters, bonuses and ladder prizes.

Bet sizes and paytable wins

The bet size ranges from 0.50 to 40. Symbols pay out for combinations of three to five on a payline, with the highest payouts for five matching symbols as follows:

• Ace, king = 12
• Queen, jack = 10
• Ten = 6

Cash Voyage bonus features

Money up 

If six or more of the three multiplier scatters (1x, 2x and 3x) land on the reels, they will trigger the money up feature that awards three free games. The initial ladder prizes above each reel are multiplied by the total bet. The ladder prizes are then multiplied by the sum of the three multipliers from the corresponding reel. All level one ladder prizes at the top of each corresponding reel will be activated.

If one or more money up symbols land, an additional free game is awarded. Depending on the number of blue lanterns, the current prize will progress to the next level. When the current ladder prize reaches its penultimate level, the gold rocket money up symbol may appear on the corresponding reel. Each gold rocket randomly awards one or more bonus prizes. When no more free games are left to be played, the current highlighted ladder prizes will be awarded. Bet levels and lines are the same as in the base game that triggered the feature.

Cash Voyage review: our verdict

We don’t think this is one of Ainsworth’s greatest efforts. The gameplay is simple as usual but the extras are limited and the graphics are really quite odd. The RTP is decent but this slot doesn’t have a lot else going for it.
