Double Joker from Kalamba Games
Kalamba Games is unlikely to top the list of any slots player’s favourite game developers yet, but that could all change over the coming months. After all, this is still a very young company, having only been founded as recently as 2016. But don’t be fooled - the company itself may be new, but the head honchos have many years’ experience of working for major gaming companies, including IGT, Quickspin and Unibet.
Rather than churning out numerous titles, Kalamba concentrates its efforts on producing slick games that look absolutely stunning. But more importantly, each game has been carefully crafted to offer players plenty of incentives to keep on playing, so you can expect lots of exciting features that will keep you thoroughly entertained and amused.
Being a new and modern organisation, Kalamba makes a point of appealing to an audience that appreciates the ability to play their favourite games wherever they happen to find themselves. Our thoughts on Double Joker
There’s nothing we love more, at Slots Temple, than a good gaming session, spinning the reels of a variety of online slots games. We’ve played all sorts of games, from action and adventure slots to cute cartoon slots, and everything in between, but one theme we see coming up again and again is fruit-based slots games. And that’s hardly surprising: fruit machine cabinets can be found in pubs, clubs and bars the length and breadth of the country, so it’s a familiar theme that just about everyone understands.
Not everyone is a fan of retro slots, but even if you think they’ve got nothing much to offer you, we think you’ll be surprised by the gaming opportunities presented by Double Joker. It may look simple, but some elements of gameplay are rather more complicated than you might expect, so it’s well worth trying the game out for a few spins at least, even if you’re not convinced that the theme holds much appeal for you.
One thing that nobody can deny is that the game looks absolutely gorgeous. It’s clear from the outset that the graphic artists and designers at Kalamba Games have spent a great deal of time and care in creating the overall look and feel of the game, and it has really paid off. This is a classy-looking game with slick graphics, and a modern, contemporary feel.
If you opt to play Double Joker on your smartphone, you’ll see that the big, bright and colourful icons look spectacular, and the size of the playing area, including the way it’s been laid out, make this a perfect format for some fast-spinning action.
The playing area is set against a midnight blue background, so the colours really pop. To either side of the reels, chestnut-coloured columns edged with gold depict images of a court jester juggling balls, which ties in nicely with the game’s theme. Along the top of the screen, in addition to the game’s title, is the game’s Mission panel, which we’ll explain more fully later. At the bottom of the screen, a dark gold panel is filled with bright purple buttons and windows, that allow players to control all the other aspects of the game. There’s a strong three-dimensional element, so the buttons really do look as though they stand out from the screen. And it’s this attention to detail that really makes the game something special.
The reels themselves are filled with traditional symbols that players will instantly recognise. Lemons, cherries, grapes and plums are all carefully crafted with plenty of detail and highlights that make them look temptingly tasty. The popular Bar symbol is also present, dating back to the very earliest days of the slots game industry, when manufacturers sold their land-based cabinets under the guise of dispensing fruit-flavoured sticks of chewing gum. The Liberty Bell symbol also has its history rooted in the earliest examples of slots gaming.
Red and green lucky number 7s also appear on the reels, along with bright, white diamonds, which represent the highest payouts in this game for the base symbols. And finally, we have the Joker himself, a bright and cheeky chap with a huge grin on his face and big, bright eyes. On his head he wears a typical jester’s hat with three points, each topped by a bell. And in an engaging touch, every time the Joker symbol lands on the reels, the points on his hat bob up and down, adding to the look and feel of the game.
Access the game’s information screens, and you’ll see that, once again, no expense has been spared in creating a classy-looking game. The buttons for scrolling through the paytable and the game’s rules are bright and rounded, and edged with gold. In fact, we simply couldn’t fault the graphics of the game at all. Everything about the game screams professionalism, and we genuinely couldn’t wait to start the reels spinning.
How to play Double Joker
Double Joker may look like any other fruit-based online slots game, but once you start spinning the reels, you’ll soon discover that there’s quite a bit more to the game than you might expect. In particular, the Mission controls take a bit of time to understand, but we’ll dive into that aspect of the game a little later on.
Before setting the reels off on their journey, you first need to calculate how much cash you wish to bet on each spin. There are ten fixed paylines, so that’s one less aspect of the game to take into consideration, and the amount that you wager will be the amount you pay per spin, unlike some games, in which the line bet needs to be multiplied by the number of lines in play.
Use the buttons at the base of the playing area to alter your bet. The minimum wager per spin is just 10 pence, with a maximum wager of £100 per spin. This is an impressive range, making the game suitable for newbies, cautious players and thrill-seeking high rollers. All that’s left to do now is hit the Spin button to see whether Lady Luck is at your shoulder.
There’s an Autoplay function, which can be accessed from the button directly to the left of the Spin button. Click or tap on the button and a menu pops up, offering you the option of 5, 10, 25, 75 or 100 spins. You can then customise win and loss amounts that will prematurely end this feature, although hitting the Autospin button again during the feature will also restore the reels back to manual control. Once you’ve made your selection, hit the Autospin button to set the feature up, and the reels will spin automatically.
The Settings button is located to the far left-hand side of the player’s console, giving access to the paytable, the game’s rules, sound options and your gaming session history - although this last feature is only available when playing for real money.
Double Joker wild symbols
The Joker symbol is wild, meaning that he can substitute for any other symbol on the reels to award you a win, even when you seem to lack sufficient matching symbols. But there are two further Joker multipliers, labelled Joker x2 and Joker x3. The Jokers cannot substitute for each other, so although there is Joker paytable for achieving three-of-a-kind, you’ll need to match specific Jokers to their own kind to achieve this payout.
But there’s more that the Joker symbols can do in this game. Whenever two or more Jokers land on the reels, they become locked in place and award a respin. When this occurs, the Joker symbol changes from an animated symbol to a solid gold icon, which remains fixed in place for the next spin, with the potential to award some generous cash prizes. And if another Joker lands on the reels during the respin, this triggers a further respin, which can be repeated multiple times. The respins only end when no further Joker appears on the reels.
Double Joker Missions
It’s the Missions in Double Joker that really raise this game above the ordinary, making it so much more appealing to players. To understand the concept of these Missions, you need to look at the top of the screen, above the reels, which contains a progress bar, along with details of your current mission.
Playing Double Joker automatically enrols the player into their first Mission, but since you can save Missions and return to them later, it’s possible to chop and change whenever you choose. You’ll see a multiplier that applies to the winning amount when you complete that particular Mission, as well as a green button which indicates how many spins you have left to complete your current Mission. The idea is to collect as many examples of the necessary symbols within the number of spins allotted.
Access Mission Control by clicking or tapping on the ‘I’ button at the top of the screen. You’re then presented with four options. Choose the Bronze Mission, which must be completed within 30 spins, the Silver Mission which must be completed in 50 spins, the Gold Mission which must be completed within 75 spins or the Platinum Mission, which gives you 100 spins to complete your collection.
Once you’ve decided on your Mission level, you need to select the symbols that you plan to collect. These are listed across the top of the Information screen, with the option of collecting 7s, multipliers or fruit symbols. The final symbol across the top gives you access to your saved Missions, so there’s no need to complete one Mission before commencing another.
Each Mission is conducted at the wagering level activated when you embarked upon it, so if you change your bet during play, your current Mission will automatically be saved, and you will start a new one, using the same parameters as for your previous Mission, unless you alter them. There’s the potential to win some major Jackpot prizes, so this is an exciting addition to a traditional type of slots game, raising it well above the ordinary.
