Although Dragon8 is a simple one-payline slot, the creators at SimplePlay have put plenty of effort into the design. With a theme based on the legend of a dragon guarding his treasure, the reels are gilded with gold and gems to provide a mystical home for the wealth. The soundtrack is a relaxing, traditional Chinese tune that does a good job of adding suspense without distracting from the game. The triple dragon wild symbols come to life with a roar whenever they appear on the reels, circled by glowing magic as they dare you to try to seek the treasures they have hidden.

How to play

With only one payline, it is easy to spot any winning combinations, as these will include a matching symbol on each of the three reels along the payline. The exceptions to this are the glowing orange orb and triple dragon wild symbols that will pay out when even one of these symbols appears anywhere on the payline.

The game plays a lot like a classic fruit machine with simple controls beneath the reels. You can set your bet by clicking the ‘coin’ button in the bottom left-hand corner from five up to 100 coins. To choose how much your coins are worth, click the ‘line bet’ button and choose x1, x2 or x3. You can also click the ‘max bet’ button to automatically spin the reels once on the highest possible bet limit.
There is also a turbo mode option to speed up the spinning of the reels featuring a lightning bolt. The ‘spin’ button is the largest of the four in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen and the ‘autoplay’ button is to the right and features two arrows chasing each other. Select this to enjoy hands-free spinning 50, 100, 200, 500 or 1,000 times; alternatively, select infinite spinning to let the game to play for you until you tell it to stop.

Bet sizes & maximum win

Helpfully, there is a list of all symbols in Dragon8 plus their values to the left of the reels, so you can easily check which symbols are the most valuable to keep an eye open for. The top win you can receive is by matching three of the triple dragon wild symbols along the single payline to win up to 3,000x your stake.

Your bets can be placed in two stages. Firstly, select your coin amount from 5 to 100, then choose how much you would like these coins to be worth from x1 to x3. The lowest setting for this would make your total bet 5.00; at the highest, you are looking at a wager of 300.

Bonus features

There isn’t much in the way of bonus features in Dragon8, as the game maker chose to keep this three-reel slot incredibly simple. The triple dragon symbol is both the highest paying and the wild; int eh latter capacity, it is capable of substituting for any other symbol to help you hit a bigger win.

The wild and orange orb symbols will pay out small amounts when they land anywhere on the payline, even if you only land one of them, so hitting a low win is pretty easy in Dragon8.

Our verdict

Overall, it is impossible to review this slot without mentioning just how stunning the graphics are and how much the soundtrack works to draw you into the game. We usually like to see more bonus features, and perhaps something in addition to the standard wild would have made the game a little more interesting for longer runs; however, we appreciate that the game maker chose to make this an uncomplicated and traditional single-payline slot.
