Betixon free slot demos have been available for a few years now, since the company was founded in 2016. Based in the Seychelles, the team somehow manages to tear itself away from the golden sands and tropical sea to create free slots like Expedition. It is a relatively straightforward game, and although its theme is ostensibly that of a quest, it doesn’t go all out with its narrative in the way of, for example, NetEnt’s Gonzo's Gold slot.

Expedition: Powerup Spins has a five-reel, three-column grid with 20 fixed pay lines. The minimum bet size is 0.20 and the maximum is 20. There are nine regular symbols: the Explorer, four different geometric symbols in blue, green, bronze and gold and then the four highest-value playing cards. The wild is a neon W.

Theme, Graphics and Soundtrack

It’s clear that a fair amount of thought and work has gone into the presentation of this game. It’s a good example of how less is often more. Many games try to produce intricate backdrops which end up looking like flat illustrations in a primary school textbook. Betixon have made a virtue of the barren wilderness of space and yet put more animation into it than many earthbound slots have managed. We are presented with a vista of space not in its conventional blackness but shaded in rich tones of purple, blue and magenta. Tiny stars are floating past us as we proceed into the unknown, with a shadowy planet visible in the far distance. In the foreground is our constant companion and guide, the explorer herself, who appears to be floating in zero gravity, her face a picture of calm determination.

She also features as the highest-paying symbol on the reels, of course, which also benefit from inventive ideas. We have the conventional cascades of coins and flashing images, but there also some eye-pleasing light effects and displays.

Musically it isn’t quite so successful - the tone is appropriate but it is slightly tuneless. Nevertheless, the designers have done a lot with quite a little.

Expedition: Powerup Spins Review: Our Verdict

This is essentially a one-trick pony. It is a very basic slot which attracts interest purely for its Powerup feature. That’s not to say the Powerups aren’t worthwhile, and if it’s a simple game you’re after, it’s definitely one to have a look at. Don’t expect extras or surprises: what you see is what you get.

RTP stands for Return to Player. Game developers calculate the average percentage a player might win and express this as the RTP. Since it is an average it means the player’s winnings overall will generally be lower than the amount wagered.

Are the spin results genuinely random?

Yes. The spins are produced by random number generation algorithms. Any combination could follow any other, just as in physical slot machines.
